They will be needed to get the most out of E85 (actually the EMS mods are needed just to get the engine running in E85)!
A little bit dramatic Chris...

E85 is no problem on the stock DME hardware - just need to update the software a bit.

Its Rennlist….some drama is needed!

Most folks don’t have the capabilities to rewrite the DME software like you do! If somebody wants to switch to E85 and make it work well they need a little more than just bigger injectors or turning up the fuel pressure to get the AFR right. I am not a fan of ‘kind of close’ when it comes to engine management. If you have the skills to redo the stock DME that’s great, if not you can either go stand alone and do it yourself or get a skilled DME guy to help.

If you really want to capitalize on E85 you will want to change the ignition timing….

E85 can be run with a Vitesse V-flex set up, which includes several ignition/fueling maps to exploit the higher octane of E85.
The original Bosch Motronic is now old and dated compared with a modern EMS, however it still performs reasonably well when properly tuned.
