Default Oil temp gauges?

Now that i know where to install the sensor and what temp to stay under I just need to choose a nice gauge.

Two questions:

Do I really need peak-recall when measuring oil-temp, isn't it enough to have a look when the cool down lap starts?

Are there any cheaper alternatives to these:

if I want an old-style looking gauge with 270 deg sweep?

Try - vdo matches your existing cluster manufacturer, so your dasboard doesn't look like a gauge sale at Wall mart.

I chose prosport (www.prosportgauges.com). I went with the premium elec. gauge with peak recall/warning function. Not bad on price and good quality.

You can see them here in this pic, the gauges are really thin for mounting in tight spaces as well:

Their "Performance" Oil press gauge is 28GBP and their Premium set-up with peak recall/warning is 62GBP. Both come with sensors and have 270 deg sweep.

The prosport range seems to be great bang-for-the-buck but I think they're a bit too modern looking..... wish they had a retro series :-)

On the other hand I'll probably put a boost controller, like AEM tru-boost , there as well someday, and that won't look so retro...

I put in a standard VDO cockpit series gauge and used the lindsey racing oil pan plug. I do have a matching VDO boost gauge so it looks generally clean.

After doin some searching on the net it seems that the Prosport meters are the same as the Autogauge meters http://www.autogauge.com.tw/index.ph...d=37&Itemid=66 (for some reason the images aren't working... but images found on other websites shows gauges that are identical in everything but the branding).

Anyone knows if this is true? The Autogauge meters seems to have a pretty poor reputation... on the other hand the oiltemp with peak recall is on sale at a Swedish raceshop:-)

Never seen them, but there are a few listers here that have been running Prosport on their cars with no issues, Duke with his 3L 16v turbo also runs them and I have not heard any issues.

These are still different style needle, but better than rest of eye-sore gauges.

I got myself one like this:

I love AutoMeter instruments.
Used a sandwich plate for the senders.

I think your boost gauge needs calibration.

As with others, I like the VDO gauges because they're a close match to factory. I don't know if a peak recall is really needed for the oil temp gauge. You do have to look at the gauge though, checking it on the cool down lap sort of negates the point of having a visible gauge.

I'd say there's probably a good chance he just lives up on Mt. Everest.

I like the gauges. Except they don't seem to offer any better resolution than the stock ones... somewhat purpose defeating, no?

It's a peak-hold / warn gauge. Electric, not mechanical.
It's fine.
