Is it done before?
I can buy a set RH zw1 cup wheels but they are 17 inch for the front and 18 inch at the rear. How would that look?

it would look like 17s in front and 18s in rear. alot of high performance cars have stagard wheels stock. usually smaller fronts and bigger rears. i know some of these drifter guys on here mismatch wheels...

yes ,it has been tried 9jx17 with yokos a005 slicks 230/625x17 cup 1,et 47 and rr 10jx18 carrera 2002 five spoke et 65 on Yokos 265/645x18. with cup suspension and MO30 rollbars.
i wouldnt reccomend it,too much understeer if you have 80 %lsd for tack use.
with std 40%lsd or TORSEN ,may be ok.

Some years ago, when 18" r-comp tires became available, a few local guys converted some of their 17" HRE 3-pc rim halves to 18" on the rears only - so they ran 17 fronts, 18 rears. 18s were prefered on the back because the 285/18 tire is a shorter diameter than the 275/17, so it reduces the final drive gearing.
I recall there was probably half a dozen or more sets of these wheels floating around in the local area. I bought a set second hand, but resold them somewhat soon after w/o ever using them.
These days, most guys have gone to 18s all around. I did find these pics of a set of these 17/18 HREs on a 968, from about 5-6 years ago.
Performance wise (on the track), I dont think there is a significant disadvantage between the staggered setup and 18s all around. Tire width/contact patch are the same on the front. Just a hair more sidewall flex with the 17s, which is not significant enough to compensate for (just a slight difference in feel).
For a street car, there is no reason not to do it. Just whether you like the look or not.
