There's quite a few 3L 16v T out there. But your question, apart from doing everything to turbo it, i think it should fit right in like it would in a 951, since the bodies are the same just the computer would need to be changed. and clutch.

Ran fine until Duke bought it and had serious overboost (something like 30 psi?) and piston ended up being in wrong orientation.

Bottom line is that there's nothing wrong boosting a 16v, in fact Porsches 1st (and successful) attempt was 2.5l 16v on 924 GTP Le Mans in 1981.
Yes, I have.
And you can bet Porsche used some pretty strong springs on the 924.
This is a non-issue, very false economy to properly do a 16 valve turbo 944 and skimp on springs. Not worth discussing.
Why would anyone argue from this standpoint?

I'm not arguing but showing that your statement is not true with an example that proved many half-truths wrong and worked very well.

And regarding 924 valve springs, yes, they are strong enough and I personally have pushed stock euro 924 engine to 944 Turbo S (250 hp/330 Nm) specs with very good reliability (3.5 years of constant driving+top speed challenegs+track time) with only gearboxes as a weak link
