Default Stereo Upgrade

I know this is a driver's car and Germany didn't like distractions but I can't stand the crappy sound (when I'm not on boost) a minute longer of the original sound system.

I bought the car with an upgraded head unit (Blaupunkt - fine) and have already replaced the door speakers with Boston Acoustic 746 plates. I was able to pick-up an old ADS PQ20 (great amp) and will replace the rear speakers with Boston Acoustic SR60's.

Any ideas of where to mount the amp and run the wires?

I was thinking the spare tire space to mount the amp since I don't use it for the spare.

Pictures will follow the install...

spare tire area for the amp, speaker wires down the sides, power wire on right side and signal wire down the middle. although if you're sticking with the original speaker size I'm not sure the amp will make much of a difference.

What he said
I was able to mount a amp along the front facing part of the spare tire well ...
I mounted studs ( very carefully ) in that cavity and mounted the amp on it with the spare tire still in there .... I would send you a picture but my car is in a million pieces and can't open the rear hatch ...( no battery )....
Regards
Ed

lol great day CPR you buy out bestbuy

Bet it sounds great though lol, right now I have infinity 4x6 in the doors and boston's 4x6 in the rear (came with the car, sound great to lol) and a dual cd player (wife gave it to me so... has to stay )

I plan on making custom pods for the front to use 6.5 and will install 6.5 in the rear in the future as well as tweeters in the doors... I have two 10inch Competition Subs that I've never installed some maybe one day they'll be in there.

Also it is proven the best sounding systems (sound quality not loudness) are 6 speaker setups... Mb Quart is awesome for audio quality and reasonably priced

Also it's important to ensure your sound stage (speaker placement and angles) are setup correctly... if not your audio will suffer. You should be able to close your eyes and imagine your at a concert and be able to pick out where the musicians are and be able to ear them clearly.

im running somewhat stock pioneer's at the back and pioneer 4" (stock replacements) with tweeter at the front wired up to a Kicker 4x75w rms, it made the biggest difference. i also tuned out some of the bass from the speakers to get better quality.

I ran my wires on the left hand side and my battery is in the boot (left hand side)

I am not quite sure about the ‘proven’ part…..once you get to a certain point its more a matter of taste. I prefer a ‘real good’ set of well placed front speakers and a decent subwoofer for cars with smaller interiors.

My Dynaudios do a nice job….they even work well in the cab!

Thank you all for the input. I was surprised how many stereo buffs there were in the 944T community.

I'll post as install progresses.

Didn't want to lose spare, so I built a sub box to house (2) 6" JL's and a 5 channel JL amp. Eclipse head unit. Bi-amp'd Polk 6" components in the doors. Had to cut a bit of sheet metal on the doors. No big structural issues. The sound beats the 4X6 plate option. My 22 year old car rattles, but like my son says, the best solution is to "TURN IT UP" Still room for the sun roof to stow in the back.
