Yeah, it looks like they are still popular and I am just fine, thanks.
The main functional benefit is faster response time of the vacuum controlled actuators, mainly the FPR. Porsche apparently thought it important enough to create a separate hole in the intake manifold (IM) for the S-models (dual banjo bolt). The original layout had the actuators “sucking through the same thin straw” (a.k.a. vacuum line).
The 5-port vacuum manifold offer an extra port for other uses such as boost controlled water injection.
Better organized and easier to understand/remember vacuum layout, each actuator has its own vacuum line directly to the vacuum source (IM).
