Did yours really rust ? I had all of mine re-plated in Yellow Di-chromate zinc
But the ones I had laying around that weren't plated and never rusted on me ?
In fact, when I tried to plate those the first time ... that blue stuff was like paint and they came out rather crappy .... So ia re plated them
I do like those exhaust manifold studs ...

They include washers, but they're not captive. I used a magnet to get them down into the cam tower.

Its worth the couple extra bucks to get the captive washer fasteners for the cam tower – you will be much happier the next time you need to take it apart.
That being said – if you have to use a non captive washer the best trick is the ‘glue’ the washer on with heavy grease (like wheel bearing grease). It will hold the washer to the bolt head while you assemble it and then get washed off as soon as the oil gets hot. This is a handy tip for a lot of other situations too!
