You can always take it to a machine shop and have them bring the mains back up to standard; the main bearings would be cheaper but then again the labor would offset the savings

Personally, I dont like undersize journals on engines I assemble.

Yeh sub arc welding the the crank then straitening then then regrinding / re hardening is probably a $700+ operation .

So it I'm realy the only tin **** who thinks 400$ for bearings is offensive?
Think there is some other bearing out of some other engine that can be made to fit with a little machining .
I managed to find some alternative bearings .75 under for the big end s for another one .
perhaps io need to just spend a few hrs in the bearing catalog again..

Nope - I think that is way too much as well.

I guess there isnt much of a demand for undersize mains on a 3.0 crank...

Yeah, well you will wonder why you didn’t jump at that price really soon….

Glyco – the only manufacturer of 944 bearings has ceased production of undersized bearings…forever.
I checked in with Porsche a couple of weeks ago – there were 3 sets of undersized mains left (in the world!)…so I bought them.
BTW – a crank that needs .5mm undersized bearings is a 2nd undersized - .25mm is the standard 1st under sized bearing. That means the crank was badly damaged and its also possible that a .5mm cut will remove most of the heat treating…I would pass on that one.

So now even if you can pay…you can’t play anymore. I hope this isn’t a trend for the OEM parts producers.
