I like the PD's on my '86 951 but I plan to find some 17's that'll work on it for spring-fall driving as my PD's will have winter tires mounted on them, henceforth.

I also really like the one's done up in gunmetal and polished - very nice! And of course, Fuchs, beautiful, classic, and sexy in black. I'd love to buy a set and there are some for sale on here but they're a bit too much for me to swing at the moment....buying the 951 drained my savings a tad low.

Sorry to re raise this thread - but im finally in the position to get the tyres.
I will go with Toyo T1-R in 225/55 and 245/45 combo, but want to know will i need spacers with these to fill the arches out.

Is there anyone running this combo without spacers that could put up a picture? My car has the early ET23 offset.

Just dug up this topic. Any pics arround with a 951 that has the 968 door handles, mirror and spoiler but also the teledials? I'm thinking of getting a set of teledials but not sure if this will mix...

see first page of this thread, the first red pic has 968 handles and mirrors and the PD's look ok with them.

I had phone dials on my '86 and never liked them. I have 17" twists on my '89 and I think they really work for this body style.

Looking at the pics in this thread I think to make the phone dials work in this day and age the wheels (and the car) have to be pristine. You have to make a strong statement that you could put any wheels on your car and these are your choice. That is, not something you are settling for until you can afford to replace them.

I'm not sure if it's an American thing, but i'm no fan of polished/mirror finished/chrome 1 piece wheels. The only thing id want polished on my wheels are the 3 piece barrels and the centre of the wheel will be OEM silver

I like my phone dials. As stiff as my suspension is, I am afraid that if I get a bigger rim and lower profile tire, that I will feel every bump or joint in the road (worse then I do now). Besides I like the stock look.

THAT is a really good and valid point! I'm not sure many guys and gals understand that until it's too late! Those 16" tires are a LOT of shock absorption! I used to run a full Escort Cup set up and I can't even imagine how much my car would have felt like riding a skateboard with my current 18" wheels.

For what it's worth, my phonedials are one piece of original equipment that I will never sell from my car. I'll update all sorts of things, including my wheels and sell of the old or original parts, but not my phonedials. They will always have a spot in my shed. If worse comes to worse, those are damned good strong light wheels for everyday use or even track time.

Now I just need to find the time to refurbish them! Here's a pic of my car when it had phonies (teledials ) and now.
