Default Boost gauge install(A few Questions)

I'm going to mount a boost gauge in my pocket for my car. I was wonder where people tap into a boost line at. I heard some people use the KLR boost line put a T in and it works great. Would that be a good spot, obviously it would be the easiest.

Does anyone have gauges in the pocket and still use the pocket or not?

Before I went other routes with the car, I used a 968 cubby (has the clock on the right side) and modified it to mount the boost gauge. That way you still have a seperate pocket.

That's a clean looking install. Does the boost gauge fit right into the hole where the clock was (diameter wise)?

Oh wow - that is a GREAT idea! Wish I would've seen this earlier. I didn't want to give up my cubby, it's where I put my wallet and phone, so I just got a simple autometer gauge cup and screwed it to the A-pillar. Doesn't look as bad as you'd think. I would've done the A-pillar cover (like Lindsey sells) but they only make a 2-gauge mount, and I only wanted 1 gauge.

To the OP - I just ran a separate line in off the intake manifold. I was concerned about getting a proper seal on the KLR line so I left that intact.

EDIT: Looks like the cubby is about $50 on Pelican: http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/...0PACKAGE%20BOX

I've got a new cubby if anyone wants it, $25.00 shipped.

The hole for the clock is initially square. I took a 2" hole saw and carefully cut out the hole, then a file to lightly sand the hole enough to get the gauge to slide in. Then I used a skim coat of Bondo to make the face flush (there is a slight recess in the cubby from new), so the gauge would look like it was sitting on a flat surface. Then Wurth satin black trim paint and it was done.

I'll try and post up some pictures when I get home this afternoon, I just switched computers and haven't transfered any of my pictures over yet.

Tapping into the KLR line is fine. Had my car that way for 4 years.

Found a pic on my FTP site during the sanding, painting, sanding, fitting stage, but you get the idea. It takes a bit of patience to get the finish right. I sanded off the paint more than once before I was happy.

The other option is to just forget the bondo coat, and install as is: If i remember correctly, you have to offset the gauge slightly to the left due to the clip on the backside that keeps the cubby held into the center console.

Not having seen a 968 cubby in real life, would there be room to mount a MBC (black ****) to it? I'm assuming so since a gauge will fit, just want to make sure before I go forward with my plans.

Hmmm not sure as I don't recall what the mounting diameter of the black **** regulator is. I have a 968 cubby in the basement, I can measure the existing hole if you want.

If you get a wild hair you can design your own face plate with these guys.

Just did one to fill in the the radio slot and the pocket below. They were very prompt and the piece fit perfectly.

If you can live without the pocket, LR makes a nice gauge mounting plate.
