How much to add LSD

Cheapest way is probably to buy a factory LSD equipped trans and install it to your car.
Aftermarket LSDs are $$, and still need to be installed (tear down your trans, install new diff, re-assemble trans).
Lindsey sells the Quaife unit for $1782.50 (same price as other sources)
944 online has a LSD for $1395.00 and will add the cooling loop drive gear for $200, add $1295 and 944 online can do a full refresh and install the LSD for you ($2700 for a nice fresh trans with LSD added)...
OR find and buy a used LSD equipped gearbox... I found one on craigslist for $1200... buyer beware...

Ohhh yeah, they're not cheap!
I dunno about the 924's, but on the 944's if you can find a used factory style they're about $600-800. Rebuilding it will run you another $800!
I picked up an AOR trans for $1k, it was definitely "the cheap way".

I just picked up a Guard LSD (torsen style). It was around $1700 with the trans cooler gear. Had a friend of mine who runs a local shop install it for me... labor and additional parts (shims, carrier bearings, inspect other trans internals, fluid) was $650.

I need to pull apart one of these transmissions. Interestingly, there is sometimes interchangability in odd places. The ring gear from my XR, which is a European Ford, bolts directly onto a GM 7.5" differential. Won't fit a Ford, but fits a GM. I still have a Torsen take-out from SLP for which I paid $100. Designed stubshafts to make it fit my rear end, but I never finished the car. I can't help but wonder how close it would be.
