In Nebraska for the past winter i used a miata with snow tires, it wasn't the most practical but was defiantly the most fun. I surprised my self every time I took it out in the snow.
But for real I would look into a STi and then you can join the local NE Subaru club at nebraska-subaru . com.

What is with all of the SUVs? I drove 130 miles in a snow storm in my RWD 2001 530i on all-seasons. The roads were probably 6-8" deep without being plowed. I took my time and had no issues. And during my trip, I saw eight cars that had slid off the interstate (i-77 from Marietta to New Philadelphia - along the hilly Eastern Side of Ohio).
In Central Ohio, we have only a 3-4 really bad days a year. Most interstates and primary roads are clear within 3-4 hours after a heavy snow storm. I would hardly buy an SUV for snow use considering how many other months you'll be shoveling gas into a 4x4 for no need for 4x4. Not to mention if it is *THAT BAD* we are usually under Snow Emergencies and cannot legal drive anyway.
And I do drive my 951 in winter when it is fairly dry out.

Or go with AWD. My 1998 A4 Quattro can drive through about 16" of fresh snow without getting stuck. And, it actually does better in the snow than the older Ford Exploder 4x4 I had (except the Exploder had more ground clearance).

I love the S4........but.......it gets V8 fuel economy in a bad way.
For the price and punishment of that fuel mileage you can pick up a Cayenne Turbo.

I just sold my 93 C2 and A4 and "consolidated" into an 07 Audi RS4.
AWD for the bad weather, 4 doors so I can scare 3 passengers at once, 21 MPG (my average to work and back), and I can still smoke a Mustang GT.
I think the S4 would be a goods choice also - very nice (and quick) cars.

Honestly, pick up a 99-02 7.3 Powerstroke Crew Cab Diesel. You can get them at bargain basement prices at this time. Then go make your own biodiesel. I can help you on that. The money you save on gas will pay for the truck payment, and the insurance. That's what it's doing for me. My truck is free. And for $1500 bucks, I got 500whp and 1,000 lb tq! But I have a 6.0. The 7.3 is nearly bullet proof on reliability for hundreds of thousands of miles. But you need more money to mod it to my level. But they are also about the best engine for biodiesel. On top of that, you can sell it for about $2.00 a gallon to other guys with diesels. Pretty cool. Then, when you get your p-car back, you have a tow vehicle, for events, repairs, etc.

Why did I have to wander into this thread and see the post about trucks. I've been looking for a "reliable DD" recently and a turbo diesel truck has been in the back of my mind. What's the lightest/smallest truck they put the 7.3L in, preferably with a manual?
