Default If I must have only 1 car -- recommendations ???

Hey all -

I might have to sell my 951 and my D.D. and consolidate to just one car due to garage space. IF I have to go through that pain - any suggestions on the best all season "swiss army knife" of a car for the wonderful climate of Nebraska ?

I was thinking the 04 - 08 Audi S4 with the V8 looks pretty good. The new BMW 335i has some big potential as well. Any other thoughts ??

You are selling your 951 or DD for a more expensive car? Wouldn't it be cheaper to rent a storage space for the unused car than consolidating?

Between the two, I would go with a 335i. Or better yet, throw snow tires on the 951.

Selling both the 951 and my d.d. - a pontiac grand prix - to consolidate to one car. I don't want to store a car or have a car sitting somewhere else where I can't just get in a drive it.

last winter was pretty nasty... lots of 12" + snowfalls last winter.

if you are rural and must drive in all weather I would strongly consider 4x4. Even then in drifiting areas you may not be able to pass.

but if you from PA you know all about driving in snow.
Really depends where (city or rural) and how critical your travel is.

you really can't go wrong with a B6 S4, they are VERY nice all around

look into E46 M3, you can get some GREAT deals

you can also get a good deal on a Cayman for a little more $$$

From my experience's in Nebraska, keep the 951, but buy new shocks. Run a big 4x4 pickup in the winter and park it outside. Some of those roads are sooo...ooo long and straight you will regret parting with the 951 before you get 1/4 of the way down them. If its one car only, go with the 4x4 pickup because NO car can take the worst Neb. has to offer.

Just assume "normal" midwest weather - rain, sleet, some snow, etc - any major snowstorms will bring out the wifey's GX470.

I had an 07 335i and there are problems with the high pressure fuel pumps that weren't fixed with the N54 twin turbo engine through 2009. The 2010 have the N55 win scroll single turbo, so I'm not sure if they use the same fuel delivery system. If so, I'd stay away. My car only had the fuel pump go out on me once, but there are reports of 4 and 5 times. I have a friend in Chicago that had an 09 335ix coupe and BMW agreed to take it back if he ordered an M3, which is what we wanted to happen. It's a shame they can't fix it, they blame the ethanol in american gas, cause otherwise its a great car.

GX470 wont cut it outside of town. Guess you've never seen Rocky Mt. snow shadow drifts. I'd get a winch and a good anchor besides. No kidding, its life or death out there!

If ground clearance isn't an issue (i.e. you can stay put when the snow is deep), I recommend a 996 C4. Awesome car. Awesomer with snow tires!!

Get a 4x4 fullsize pickup and go through everything the road can throw at you.
