2. Vinyl dye. If you're just going to black, then the stuff at Pepboys or Autozone will work. SEM is better.

You need to clean the vinyl very well with a degreasing cleaner/detergent, like purple power. Then scrub with some Dawn, or similar, dish soap. Let it dry for a day. Then you can go at it.
