Default What's the most inexpensive way to ship over sized packages?

I have to ship out a splitter... and WOW have shipping prices gone up.

I have a box 69"x27"x6" about 12lbs from CA to LA.

USPS = $98
UPS = $69
FedEx = $89

There has got to be something more cost effective out there.

Anybody?

I have a contact loading a container in CA it will cost about 30$ but it will end up in Melbourne Australia..

tragic hey that a cross the globe cost less than across the country
i believe pack grey hound and pack n send are perhaps cheaper they are depot to depot and exclude the drop off and pick up wich is about half or so of the cost ...

DB Schenker. The trick is that you ship from a business that you can say has some sort of relation to that product, ie an type of automotive business and shipping a block.

I sent two large, heavy bins packed with engine parts to a 'lister very cheaply, and they took a COD, and they picked it up from my friend's shop at no charge the next day.

I think they were about half of anyone else.

As long as the receiver will pick it up Greyhound is the cheapest for large light packages.
I use DB Schenker for engines –too heavy for greyhound!

Greyhound is pretty awesome for weird packages like that. Although that DB Schenker sounds useful too.

Not sure if it qualifies for freight, but you should check out freightcenter.com. I recently shipped a 951 front-end conversion and UPS quoted me $414 to ship. Going through freightcenter it was less than half to ship through UPS (apparently they get some major discounts through UPS).

Otherwise, greyhound.

Sure, if you don't mind it being dented when it arrives.

I recently had a go kart shipped (with motor and parts galore) across the country with a freight company for $150.00. Granted the package was delivered to the companies location by the seller and was picked up from their depot by me and was professionally packaged to fit on a pallet. All I needed was my company name at tell them it was not for personal use but for resale. Call the different carriers in your area.

http://www.forwardair.com/ ships motorcycles reasonably, may be good for other large items.
I never used them though.

Shipped a fiberglass bumper from IN to VA via greyhound for ~$50 and got there within 3 days of dropoff. I used lots of cardboard/tape/bubble wrap. They do have some size restrictions and a weight limit...their website should list those.
