Cayenne V(R)6 Swap
#47
For a n/a car owner i see this as a great option. In my personal opinion a 1.8t swap has more potential than any of the factory 944 options from a financial standpoint. And i am simply amazed at the blind love for the 944 engines. A late model engine as many more advantages than the mid 80's design from the factory.

I am in a position to be able to make this swap into kit form....however the man who would give the green light would like to know (I'm very curious as well), how popular do you all think the kit would be? Dry sump would be an option (about $2400 based on current 6 cyl kits he manufactures) I see this swap as being appealing to:
-Club racers in the GT class or NASA GTS, who want to race high hp 944's but would like to spend less money to get there (since LS-1 is not legal for PCA)
-944 Turbo owners who want something different, but still want a Porsche engine
-944 owners who want a faster car but can't come to grips with spending boo-coo money on the 8 valve N/A
Remember the first generation Cayenne V6's were 3.2 and 250hp, now they are 3.6 and 296hp normally aspirated...with dual overhead cams and 24 valves.
I know it started out as a VW, but so did the 944...if anything they're a match made in heaven!

What other information do you have on the kit ? Have you done this swap all ready or are you looking for interest before starting ?

The Cayenne 6 is a VR6 up until 2011.
This guy was trying to put a VR6 into a 944. Looks like there were lots of conflicts with the size vs sheet metal. Look at Page 11 for pictures and detail of the conflicts.

The exception to this is the hybrid that looks to get the Audi supercharged V6 from the S4.
They had pictures of all the motors.
I'll be honest, i have never lifted the hood on any of the Cayenne V6 cars myself. (have a cayenne turbo so no need to look at the v6)
