Default Lets talk 93 octane

So a lot of the gas stations in my area are ditching 91 for 93, but the catch is it has 10% added ethanol. So I was wondering if its safe to run. I don't see why it wouldn't work. My car still has the stock injectors with the max 951 chips if that matters.

Thanks, Alex

the smart money is having your FQR set to the richest setting for those who don't have widband and clever chips etc .. to be burning hot its lean as ethanol burns cooler then petrol.
the US tends to have a bit more consumer rights strength but i we have found in AUS that ethanol is not as clean as should be so you need to keep an eye on your filter injectors etc i have seen some trashed fuel systems from ethanol rich fuels but the cars where left sitting .
I really believe in ethanol as a fuel but i would take a few little precautions like throw injector cleaner in every now and then and change your fuel filter every couple of years and check the FQR if not proper wide band etc ..

Check your owner's manual, as your car is a few years earlier, at least mine specifically approves up to 10% ethanol. That doesn't mean that your specific tune will handle it, or that your ethanol isn't contaminated with anything, but at least it shouldn't dissolve or disintegrate any of your fuel system components, which is the major danger of ethanol.

Oh and your mileage will drop a bit.

perhaps you should treat yourself to an Australian made standalone on witch you can configure your own FQR

So E10 would be still 93 octane but just slightly leaner than 100% gas. Or maybe a tick over 93 due to the ethanol having higher octane rating than standard gas?

So as mentioned, maybe run a hair richer to be safe.

Although, I thought most gas stations have been running E10 for some time now even if not posted at the pump? Also, I think most stations run E10 in the winter anyway.

Well since I don't have a MAF on the car there is no way that I can adjust it to run richer? So maybe I should stay clear from those stations?

In Texas there are many stations with 93...the label always reads "may contain up to 10% ethanol".

It's what we have and don't see that i have a choice. I think it's working fine?

if you were really that worried you could just use the fuel switch to add a little...

I'm not that worried, I just wanted to make sure that I was going to run super lean because I don't have a A/F gauge yet.

Just realized you are in the heart of E85 country.

Get a chip with an E85 map, turn up the boost and have at it!

I have E85 available as well here. Is it really that simple? And what level of boost? It's running like a champ now at 16-18psi.

Sorry for the elementary question...new to the 951!

I am also wondering what all is really needed to run E85. My car has the 3 bar fpr and the Bosch high volume fuel pump, but I still have the stock injectors and stock turbo.

So would I really benefit from E85 on the stock turbo? Do I need bigger injectors?
