Default Trading 944 Turbo for 944 NA

Hey guys I have recently decided that I wish to trade my 944 turbo for a 944 na.... My wife doesn't like the one we have currently and then I told her I know of someone who has a 1986 944 blue exterior, tan/black interior, automatic and then she got excited and said she would drive it all the time....
I just want to know if you think it would be a good deal

His 944 NA is in excellent condition with only 115k miles on it, runs great with no problems, may need rear shocks soon but thats it.

My 944 Turbo has a few things wrong it it and 195k miles, broken odometer, horn doesn't work, headlight needs adjusting, tears in seats, dash cracks, 20yr stuff pretty much... I do have the LSD option on the car as well and have 1500+ in new parts... Pretty much all sensors are new, hoses, full tune up.. previous owner replaced clutch and belt/water pump.

I have new tires as well but I wish to keep those... but I was wondering if this trade would be a decent one, I know my turbo is worth a little more but with his in great condition I figured it would be even.

I'm doing it because I wish to have a 944 and for it to cause problems with my wife isn't worth it, but if I can get one we both can enjoy without problems I feel its worth it

Wow. There's no way I'd do that. The trade doesn't sound even at all to me. What exactly does your wife not like about the turbo? I'm going to assume that she has an issue with the manual transmission. You need to teach her how to drive a manual. It takes a lot of patience, but once she gets it, she'll understand why the 951 is a better and more fun car to drive. The problems you mentioned with your 951 sound very minor if not simply cosmetic.

944 N/A + Auto trans = SLOOOOW

Give the 951 the love it deserves, clean it up, and then teach her how to drive it properly. She'll love it.

Well we got the car from a shady guy and have been pretty much pouring money into fixing the lack of maintenance..
It's pretty much she doesn't like this one due to miles the shady guy and because we had an arguement about getting it and it's broken down on us like 4 times in a year, but she also doesn't like 5-speeds...she can drive one but doesn't want one.

I would just like to have a 944 that I don't have to feel like its viewed as the other woman or replacing the wife... something we both can enjoy and take pride in..

The stuff wrong with it is minor, I have fixed alot of stuff on it and am proud at how far it's come..

I know the nada classic value for his is roughly 5,500 and mine turbo is 7,800 so I would be losing but I only paid 2,800 for my turbo and with the new parts roughly 1,500 so about 4300 total which is good and cheap for a 944 turbo with lsd and decent maintenance.

I haven't looked at his 944 Na up close yet, but in order for me to trade I want it perfect, up dated maintenance and to keep my new tires... personally if he had a problem with that he's an idiot because that's a heck of a deal to me

Sounds like you're just trading one set of problems for another.

Buy her a commuter car. It'll fix all your problems and you'll save big in the long run.

I happen to agree with LS1Porch on it. I do not think an auto-NA is the way to go (really any i4 + automatic transmission is a big, big disappointment if not annoying). A good compromise would be to give your wife the car she wants to drive and keep the turbo for yourself (if YOU really want to keep it).

However, I do admit the strong magnetism to the 944 turbo over the NA and many other Pcar models.

Ya i agree that getting her the car she wants would be the best way to go but she really wishes all our vehicles to be ours not just hers or mine, which I can totally agree with and respect.
I just know this particular 944 has put a sour taste with her and I don't like disharmony...
I know if I get the 944 auto I will be happy I have a 944 but sad by the lack of power compared to my turbo, still enjoy it to it's full ability though.
If i keep the one I have I feel like its a thorn in our marriage, if it breaks down I hear comments about it or if I spend money on it or anything...

But if I get the 944 auto she will be happy with it, I can work on it without problems and spend money on it without issues...

It's a tough call... but I agree with you guys and I also understand her....
I'll test drive the car and go from there, I'm only 24 so I have plenty of life to get another turbo and only one woman I wish to be with..

I'll keep you posted on what happens, I'm seein the car tonight around 8pm EST.

I really don't think you'll be happy with an n/a auto car, though. There would be no point in putting money into it. You would have a faster, more reliable car if you bought a Honda Civic.

Trust me, she may "think" she wants to share a car with you, but if you take her out shopping for HER car...her opinion will change very quickly.

944 Autos are like Cabs. They should never have been made. To contemplate trading a 951 for an auto n/a is beyond my comprehension.....
My apologies for not being able to answer your question.

That's a 10.5 second car......to sixty. I would consider spending a few bucks and getting a trip 968, you will never get much out of that na auto. It's probably worth $2500 to $3500 to the right buyer. There are very few buyers interested in a NA 944.

Good luck.
