I'm running a Spec stage 3 clutch.....Looks like it could be a major factor to the shaft breaking?

Heyyy....nice work!
You know, Constantine has been working on an improved shaft. Might want to give him a shout!

Does seem pretty strange, though.

I'm sure the clutch and rwhp helped, but wonder if bad bearings might contribute to that it the shaft starts bouncing around in there?

If you're going to have a failure though, that's the way to do it -- twist the drive shaft in two!!

JET951 just had a similar incident in Australia. I've now seen four or five. It's odd how some issues come up in batches. IIRC, all of the cars in question were running big HP numbers, or atleast considerably more than stock.

ahhh. That's right. I'm surprised it didn't destroy the cv's first.

Yes, I wondered that myself. Makes me think it was certainly fatigue rather than a single event.

Theres been a few, but IIRC its usually the teeth have gotten rounded off or ruined, or its been at the rear on the transaxle coupler.

Lots of hard launches?

Ok Old Timers is setting in....but I seem to remember reading somewhere, that the Turbo S had a stronger torque tube as one of the upgrades?

I shattered my Torque tube shaft in my LS1 car. I also broke out a huge chunk of the rear "bell housing". I suspect the bell housing went first and this allowed the trans to rotate upwards which then sheared the shaft. This happened when I shifted into second gear while racing a Mustang.

How long ago was that shaft broken? That rust looks like that torque tube had been out of the car for years?

Happened last August....Rust can take hold pretty quick, you only have to look at your brake discs after a day or two if a car is left standing...Rust never sleeps!
