Default Where can I get a windshield?

My windshield has a small crack on the driver's side for months now, only getting bigger, called Safelite and they want $243 without an antenna, no way, I paid $180 for it with them 4 years ago, any suggestions?

$180 with antennae? I've never seen one that cheap. I've always heard how they are usually double the non-antennae models...no direct experience though.

You can get one of the chinese ones for about 180, but the safelite one is probably a better product. I got one of the chinese ones a couple of months ago and it is already showing signs of pitting.

Wow... $243?

When I put a new windshield in my 951 the best price I got was $750 - some places were closer to $900. I wound up just calling my insurance company and had them cover it. No idea how much the final bill was, all I paid was my deductible.

I got an average of around $580 or so in my area by way of my insurance with safelite recently. Unfortunately the crack was longer than 6" so all they would do is replace and that hits my deductible which is higher than the replacement cost and Im short on cash right now. I bought a crack repair kit and managed to stop the spread of the crack for now.

No experience here either, but I've read on here before that the windshields with no antennas don't fit very well, because they are for the early cars...

Unless they are making antennaless windshields for late cars?

Safelite sounds like your best bet. In December, I got mine replaced for $181 ($121 glass + $60 install). They asked who was my insurance with. I told them I was going to pay for it. They said "we know, we just want to give you the insurance replacement price.

I got one from the Porsche dealership in Seoul with antenna for about 1100 USD after the exchange rate. Thankfully my insurance covered most of it.

WOW I thought they were all much more expensive than that...but you live in Florida, isn't insurance supposed to cover that with no deductible, by law?

I just had one installed without an antenna about 3 weeks ago for $243. With antenna was around $450. As far as I can tell, it fits very well.

I have read some bad reports on those Chinese windshields. The glass pits easy, not fitting all the way across properly, and vision distortion. Their Quality Control is not up to our standards, but we buy their cheap stuff anyway. Go figure. You get what you pay for in the long run. I carry comprehensive insurance and it pays full cost with NO deductible for any glass replacement or damage from hitting an animal. Well worth the small extra cost. The cost of our windshields very widely from area to area for the same thing.

Cheers,
Larry

Yes, but only if we have full coverage or comprehensive. I am on PIP only insurance, because I can't afford to insure so many cars on a higher insurance plan... and neither of my insurance companies will replace my cracked windshield either. I am waiting for the next parts car to come around or sometimes I see windshields for sale on craigslist for around $100 from other people's parts cars.

Yes if you have comp and collision coverage. Mine was free. The proper windshield with an antenna is every penny of 250 bucks. The proper windshield, which is the Sekurit WS, is ove 700 bucks at dealer retail.
LFA, if you aren't covered, 250 is a great deal.
