Default mystery box under dash

i was looking under my dash and found a black box with a switch on it.
it seemed kind of random to me. did this come with the car? or is it some sort of aftermarket mystery.

didn't seem to do anything when i flipped the switch

is it on driver or passenger side? It could be anything from aftermarket alarm to nitrous system.

Machine gun control. Excellent against any slow motorist.

Check to see where the wires go. It might have been a secret kill switch, so kids don't take the car out. My friends dad in High school did this to his car. He sucks!! Good luck...maybe just an old after market alarm switch too.

Self destruct. How long did you leave it flipped for? They're usually on a 30-second timer to give you an appropriate amount of time to clear the blast radius.

If u have a remote start, it may be a valet switch. Viper alarms with remote start have this feature. You wouldn't notice unless u tried it.

the 86 turbo I recently picked up has this same switch. If I flick it a few times (like 2 or 3 quick flicks) the alarm beeps, almost as if its a self test of some sort.

My car didn't come with any type of key fob device, nor have I ever been able to find a way to arm the system. It's definitely an aftermarket Alpine alarm system though.

So basically I am in the same boat, sort of. I'm selling this particular car though so I'm not as concerned with figuring out what it is.

i know my 944S had a special alarm installed by the porsche dealer since it was a chicago car. It had a switch near that location that you could flip when you were in the car setting off the alarm- if someone was walking up to the car with a gun/ bat.

Trust me, 951's do not need a switch to self destruct, they have that automatically build in from the factory.
