I thought the set was ordered from Paragon, but I can't find it. Maybe it was Pelican. Whoever it was offers both aftermarket, and OEM. Regardless it was not the fault of the vendor, so please don't take that as an accusation. After the bores were torn up, we replaced with OEM ones. I have since heard that it is a commmon problem with non-OEM ones.

The lady at the shop started to charge me $ 110.00 for polishing at that price it wasn't profitable for me especially if you wanted one for free.

Off on a tangent – lots of old timers posting here! In fact there were several 2001 members posting in a row!

Hey Ski – remember the Mastercraft? The Owner felt bad about all the time I was spending on it (I was actually having fun!) and he took it to closest dealer (3 hours away). The dealer ‘blew’ the engine and says there is no compression on 2 cylinders now. $6k for a rebuilt engine (generic) or $9k for a new Indmar….! The dealer also offered to buy the boat as is…. I am smelling something fishy here.

Hey CRP - what size can you get those Geotze rings? Hmmm...looks like they would seal up in no time...

Sounds like a problem with the lapping of the cylinder bores. Perhaps the shop did not use the correct compound and technique. You can't just bore and hone Alusil, you need to use the correct compound to expose the silica within the Alusil. There are not many machine shops that have the right equipment for this.

There was a really good thread on the Aircooled thread some time ago - I'll see if I can dig it up.

Here it is:http://forums.pelicanparts.com/911-e...g-alusils.html

I had my block bored and re-alusiled by Rich Jacksic in NJ and he did an excellent job.

re-alusiled? You mean properly honed with Sunnen paste and felt pads? Right on Eric OZ S2, this is a process to expose the silica not a coating.
