Default Runs for ~5 seconds and dies (starving fuel)?

Hey guys,

Have this 86 951 back together that I bought which had been sitting for a LONG time ( probably 10+ years) but is in really good shape overall. I did timing stuff, waterpump, vacuum lines, yada yada. Had to get an ebay DME because the original was not with the car when I got it. Originally had no spark, but found that the chip in the DME was 180 degrees....

Anyway, Finally got to try starting it and it runs very nice for ~1 second, then runs at about 200-500 rpm for a few more seconds then quits. Throttle has very little affect on the running, although with a the tiniest bit of throttle possible sometimes it runs for longer (almost 10 seconds). I'm pretty sure its leaning out.

Injectors were cleaned and tested at witch hunter, gas tank was drained, fuel filter replaced before attempting to start it.

I kept trying to run it thinking maybe there was 10 year old gas in the lines still, but to no avail. Seemed to run longer once it started to heat up though.

Any ideas? I'm thinking maybe a weak fuel pump?? I just ordered a gauge for the rail and fuel pump from paragon in the meantime..

Jumper the DME relay. If that doesn't work bench test the fuel pump, briefly being the key word there.

Make sure all the boost hoses are tight, I know it seems obvious but I manged to make mine do the exact same thing by having a loose inter cooler hose!

Swagger, it runs , from a completely empty fuel rail originally, so the fuel pump is triggering to some point at least.

Thanks schip, I will look for that. I guess I could possibly have some kind of leaking j boot or something, I did not replace that.

I am guessing that the fuel pump is only on during cranking....

put a pressure gauge on the rail

Interesting. What would cause that? I tried two DME relays. I have a pump and gauge coming in for the weekend hopefully...
