Default Center Exit Exhaust

We are going to be making a center exit GT3 style center exit exhaust for my race 951. Not going to disclose any details at the moment. But, I will post pics as soon as it is finished. If anybody has any opinions, let me know. If we can make this cost effective, we may be willing to sell them. So, please let me know what you would think about something like this. Can't give any details yet, as we are waiting on the car to get back from Fifth Gear before we start.

Happy Motoring

I bet it will look great!
But losing the Turbo spoiler (whatever it's called) back there would keep me from even considering it...

Little bit of fiberglass work and you can relocate the tail pipe relief to the middle...

Just make sure you Measure twice and cut once....

I'm liking the idea more and more, and might consider something similar in the near future as I have upgrades coming over the summer...(read 3 inch turbo back, headers, bigger turbo, standalone)

Yeah we were going to try to keep the factory look of the split for the exhaust, but move it to the center. Two 2 and a half inch pipes.

Sounds awesome! But, a rennlist membership might help you sell these, since it is required. BTW this is the 951 post for me!!

Why? Especially for a race car. You are adding bends ergo back pressure. Which is the one thing that we try to reduce with larger exhausts, etc. If this was for a street machine and you valued the looks then yeah go for it.

As far as the spare tire well, mine is gone. This makes it a heck of a lot easier to get the transaxle out of the way.

To echo rlm.... Why? Whats the point?

All youre doing is getting the hot exhaust closer to the transaxle and inner CV joint, which can do nothing for longevity or ease of maintenance....

So are you routing the exhaust around the transaxle to behind it, and then straight back?

Some of the later posts beat me to the question of why? I don't understand what the improvement is.

I would tend to agree.

Seems like the best solution is the stock routing. A center exit exhaust would bring the heat close to the transmission, CV joints, Trans cooler, Gas tank, etc. It would also loose ground clearance without removing the spare tire well.

The stock set up puts the exhaust in the only location that heat and clearance are available(especially on cars with a trans cooler).

Unless there is some top-secret routing we are not seeing here. I would love to see pics if there is.

Like I said, we are not sure what we're doing yet. We're taking the 4" exhaust off of it to put on the street car, and we're just trying to be a little different. We'll get it figured out.
