Default Project - what started as a Matte Black Wrap fail ...

Hi Gents

It’s again been a while since I’ve contributed so thought you might all be interested in this new project Beni is personally working on as a DD car.

It was about 4 weeks ago I received an email from Beni during our weekly business catch-up that he told me he was about to acquire another personal 951 project – yes another! Well I congratulated him but secretly thinking this would be another dust gatherer pushed to one side of the workshop never to see the light of day again, but boy was I wrong.

The email I received (sorry lost now) showed pictures of a tatty 951 missing many front parts and the engine was a non runner.

I asked him what his plans were only to be told “It’s me new DD” ... Hummm that piece of **** will never see the road again I thought but rest assured I was wrong.

Well a week later I received the first picture ...

He’d already stripped the car down, sanded smooth the old paint! Then followed the next pictures of which I received 2 plus judging by his email tone was pissed – he’d only gone and tied to matte black wrap the wreck:

below - not bad from a distance:

Below - but the close up told a different story:

This wrap application came as no surprise with Beni being a person that likes to try everything and even though it was not horrendous for a first attempt on the hood, close up it just wasn’t the same as a fresh coat of paint and Beni "trust me" has zero patience for error.

Sure enough the very next day I got the email I was waiting for ... “can you send me some matte black paint from the UK” (this because paint like most things in Switzerland are ridiculously expensive).

Well he’d started the project so I gathered there just might be a chance he’d actually finish what most would part out and promptly ordered him 5ltrs of 2k matte black paint for the bargain sum of £60.00.

After shipping him the paint, 3 days later (today I received this in my in-box):

I'll keep the pics comming but at this rate it should be finished late next week but thats all in the detail as he has many other plans for it

Best regards,
Mark and Beni

Love it! Lately I've been seriously considering the flat-black route...

That's pretty cool, I'll bet it will look great when it's all put back together. Be sure to post finished pics w/ those white wheels mounted.

I dig it. Semi / flat black seems to pull out & accentuate curves and lines that gloss paints can't.
Can't wait to see more progress pictures & thanks for posting!

You want to try working with Him ... It's bloody torture and my last visit over to our factory took me 3 weeks to recover stripping down our project 968, pulling it straight and having it finished in primere in just 4 days:

^ Yes that's me bent over in the background in pain from the slave labour

I kinda like it
Yes it's different for sure but wait until finished as he has big plans and the exterior including the paint is far from finished

Next he will slam it like his red 951:

^ Again fresh out of the paint booth but this time he will not be going down the KW V3 route as we have found a much cheaper option and better than the KW's for all (in every respect) - this is something we are currently testing and when we are finished we will update

The car will feature dual stripes over it with matching colored wheels but don't know the exact color yet as he hasn't decided but it will be discreet and stealth true to the project

Hey Mark,

That nose panel looks VERY, VERY good. The body line blending is really smooth and seemless.

Very good work
