While I haven't put Seafoam into my 951 (needed a new head before I had a chance to), I'd recommend using the small vac port that is on the bottom side of the throttle body. It's much easier to control the rate of ingestion w/ a small tube.

You'll need to open the TB to keep the idle up as it ingests the fluid anyway. Plus, you want the fluid evenly dispersed among all cylinders which may be difficult to accomplish between the intake runners.

Make sure you re-start the car outside as it will make a ton of white smoke...

Just for an FYI for everyone.

Seafoam has been out for a long time. Good product.

But, It's not magic

Basicly it's composed of

Naptha
Isoprople alc
Kerosene

A lot of people wonder where you get naptha from. Well, Naptha is nothing more then untreated gasoline. Usually has sulphur content to it. So, the gasoline is actually better.

Reason i know about naptha and pale oils? Work in a refinery running 25,000bbl a day through one unit and 35,000 bbl a day through another unit.

Lil snip pulled off the web...

"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""" """""""""""'
http://seafoamsales.com/

If you feel that particular product is what you need,,
It's very cheap and easy to make at home

25% Cleaner>Naptha
60% Stabilizer>Kerosine
15% Oxygenate> Isopropyl Alcohol (common Rubbing Alcohol)

Other Commercial Brands such as Chevron Techron Concentrate are 100% Cleaner.
Majority is Naptha,,,along with Stoddard Solvent,Benzene,Xylene, etc.

You can Substitute Seafoam's 15% IPA for Toluene and get better results,,,most paint stores have it.
(here in the states anyway,,
I know EU's air quality standards causes big differences in chemical availability than USA's)

Seafoam is a good product.
I don't use it but I recommend it frequently for certain situations.
Being a "All-in-1 Multi Purpose " type product it's a good choice for folk's to use as a preventative meaure.
And it's convenient because they needn't have 3~4 different products to address several of a fuel system's maintenance requirements.

If you cannot find it,,,don't despair or feel like You're missing out on something "Magic".

NONE of the additive products are anything anyone "invented".

ALL the Products are merely a variety of Blends of generic,,bulk commodity petrochemicals.

They are simply bought by the barrel,,,,mixed together in various ratios,,,,Bottled>Labelled>Sold

SeaFoam for example,,
It's sells for about $8 USD for 16oz.
That's about 4 Brit Pounds for approx 1/8 L
(If I'm not mistaken in my conversion,,,lol)

$64 USD per gallon
32 pounds Sterling per 4Liters (I Think)

Here in the States we have a bunch of "$1 Dollar Stores" ,,,household and sundry items where Every Item in the store is $1

"Naptha",,,2 Bottles @ $1 eais 1/2 gallon--64 oz>> 1/2L?
"Kerosine" 3 Bottles@ $1 ea =3/4 gal
"IPA" 2 bottles for 1$ = 1/4 gal

$6 for 1.5 gals
3 pounds for 6L,,,
For "GENERIC ,Homemade seafoam"

versus the
$64 USD per gallon
32 Pounds Sterling per 4Liters
for actual,,namebrand Sea Foam

It's not so much the point that it's only 1/10 the Cost,,,
it's that homemade blend allows for ,,,not just Enhancement but even Exageration of the Beneficial Properties of the Additive Mix.

For example :
Skip the Rubbing Alcohol, replace it with Acetone,,,Same Price.
Makes engine Start much better in Cold Weather,,,SOMETIMES improves fuel mileage,,,is Less Corrosive,,,and acts like a Cleaner Itself.
And,,it gets added in at much, much lower doses.

Or,,,add a $5 pint of Toluene in lieu of a quart of Kerosine

Or ,,1$ Quart of Auto Trans Fluid,to make Mega Stabilizer.

Or,to add to Crankcase---it sometimes Smokes a bit.
But I just FEEL better Cleaning internals with a premium LUBRICANT as the engine runs,,,rather than all Solvents.

Isn't there a major difference between running Seafoam, or any cleaner, through the intake track vs. in the gas tank?

You can run Seafoam in the gas tank but it will not have the same effect as in the intake system.

Also, in terms of gas additives, I have seen only one that was run and and the motor torn down after to see which one did anything and Gumout's Regane was the only one that showed noticeable before and after difference on the cleaning of the system.

Used to, Technron was the ONLY porsche approved cleaner. They basicly stated the rest were snake oils.

If you toss in what alcohol "used" to do to older engines on the seals. It was a valid reason. Now, the seals can take the alcohol as all gas has to have it.

Oh, and it's actually better to suck some into the intake track while running and shut the engine off while getting sucked in. Then, the solvent has some time to work on the deposits. Then, after 10min, start it back up and run it to wash the grime away. For real cleaning, do it a few times. Once for 5min, once for 10 min, once for 30min. That way you get things that need longer times to break down.

I usually run a blend of 3 gal of fuel with 2 large bottles of technron. Drive it like that for 20 miles hard. Then park it. Drive it again, Park it. Then, Throw in another 5 gal of fuel and another bottle of technron and drive it for a few days. Then just fill it up when it gets low.

Techron is what NASA used to clean the space shuttles fuel system.... exclusively.

But screw all this "additive" talk. Just go to Home Depot and get a gallon of denatured alcohol. Add that to 1/2 tank of gas, and you'll pass with flying colors. Even a gallon or 2 of E85 to 1/2 tank of gas will do it.

I have always been a steady user of Xylene/Toulene for cleaning out the fuel system but would love to trade over to denatured due to cost.

Pros and cons of running a gallon of denautured vs. Xylene?

What is the highest % mix yo ucan safely run?

Octane/anti knock gains?

It's actually better to run all three from time to time. As, they can all three work on different deposits that the others won't work as well. Kinda like a cleaning cocktail.

Good to know! Thanks

I bought a bottle and ran 1/3 through the 3-4 port, not nearly as much smoke as I expected, the rest went into the tank. At $10 for 16oz I'll definitely make my own..

UPDATE:

Yep, new Magnaflow cat pulled 929/705 (15/25mph) and created awesome numbers except the 929 which is ~240 over.
Same numbers... twice! 241 this time.
Gotta pull the O2 and Seafoam it, almost sunset.

I'm going with the port between 3 and 4, doing the 5min soak time now to be followed with the 10 and 30. Yep, gassing the neighborhood.
