If you can find an OEM porsche that is a third of the price of an Enkei, what is there to agonize over?I wouldn't sell my porsche wheels for that price.

Depends on what suspension you have Luis and also what you define as 'ride'. May as well throw in what you want the car for while you're in there making absolute statements. It's all pretty subjective.

18" wheels are more fragile than 16's. 18's are prone to being knocked out of true and even cracking, so if your in an area that has poor road conditions then beware.
I have done a lot of research and used many wheels over the years. 18" Porsche/BBS wheels are strong and light and very cost effective. For lightness the 993 hollows are about the best in 8's and 10's. 996 Carrera 5 spoke rears are a little lighter in 10's. They are very similar in weight to CCW's etc. Some of the heaviest wheels are the multipiece wheels. RUF are one of the heaviest yet they fetch a big premium, go figure!
I have had many cracked/out of true 18's even Porsche ones. I won't go near the low cost aftermarket ones.

Can anyone point to any track times to support the idea that 18" wheels are better than 17", or 16" for that matter. I've always wondered when looking at wheel weights why people were putting 18" wheels for racing on these cars... a forged 18" wheel typically weighs about the same a cast 17" wheel, IIRC. Not a flame, genuinely interested in any direct evidence one way or the other.

Its simple. Look at the cars that win races, and what wheels they use. That's not to say its not possible to win races on 16's, but there are many factors, one being the limited tire choices with 16's. From my experience there is not that much of a difference, but there is a difference.

in 18's i will be using twists both 993 and 996 style seem pretty easy to get in 10" high offset and also come in a light version techno+ bbs
what is the best 17" rim ?
what is OK weight and resonbly common in 9+" wide 47+ offset ??
cup 2's ??
did porsche make 993 t style rims in 17"? or is there only fake .. I think 17x9/10 are good choice a shade stronger and lighter than 18's good tire selection but the rims are really rare .. they seem to beall 8"

The Fikse 17" wheels with 9" and 10" widths are about 19.5lbs each. The turbo twist OE 18" wheels are about 23lbs. Not enough difference to matter all that much. The OE twist wheels were/are good enough for the best of the modern porsche turbo cars. They spend more money on R & D than any of the wheel manufacturers for a particular build.
The only twist wheels avilable in 17" are replica, not OE. I've got a replica set with track tires mounted, and they are much heavier than my Fikse with tires mounted.

It would interesting (and somewhat counterintuitive) if the times were actually faster on 18" rims, even though they were heavier.
I understand what you are saying about tire choice. But while the choice may be quite limited these days for 16" rims, the difference in choice for tires between 17" and 18" rims would not be nearly as great, I'd think.

No one has claimed 18" are far superior to 17" and on suspension system designed for 15" wheels doubt many would .
I think heaps of people would like to have 17x 10's but there just not thick on the ground like 18x10's are ..

18" offer greater tyre choice and will also have a stiffer sidewall. To counteract this the wheel and tyre package will be heavier compared to the same setup in 17" brand for brand.
