My shifter has taken to rattling, or should I say vibrating, outrageously between 1,600 & 1,800 rpm. It's not so sloppy in general but the vibration is crazy and has become super annoying.
Suggestions/remedies would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Check your balance shafts. One may be out of alignment.

I had some strong vibrations "buzzing" in the shifter, Mine was caused by a balance shaft being out one tooth. Mine happened after a belt replacement so there was an obvious probable cause.

Thanks one and all foe the replies so far.
My current favourite cause for the vibration is balance shafts. I have frigged around with the shift linkage every which way and even tried shimming it to make a tighter fit. Nothing I did made a shred of difference. Always at between 1,600 & 1,800 rpm it would produce the same harmonic vibration.
The shifter is stock and the vibration will even occur with shifter disconnected from the main linkage rod!
I had not even thought of balance shafts but it seems consistent with the problem. When I bought the car the selling dealer had the belts and rollers replaced as part of the deal. My guess is that the "euro specialist" they sent the car to fudged the job and missaligned one or both of the shafts.
The torque tube bearing seems plausible too but I will start with the shafts and see what I discover.
Again, thanks for the input!

No, I can hold the rpm and more or less maintain the vibration. At wot it vibrates only as it passes through 1,600-1,800 rpm. Do you think balance shafts or some other cause?
