Default looking for old plug wires

I am playing around with a new project - anybody got any old plug wires that I can play with?

Anybody donating to the cause will get a decent discount on new plug wire sets….

When I get back I will. I'll be replacing mine...but I can send you my old ones while the car is down.

I have a set that have just been sitting here for a while. I believe they're stock wires and worked just fine when they were on there. PM me an address and I'll send them out this week via USPS (I think I can get them all in a priority mail box).

Chris, didn't we have a discussion about how you shouldn't be using old parts?? I just changed the oil in my truck, it has 3000 miles on it, should I send it your way? LOL

Ok – I’ll fess up – I have been using Magnacor wires on a lot of my builds and I have now had enough failures that I can’t stand it anymore. There are some decent plug wires out there but not any great ones. Nobody makes a boot to fit the head as well as the stock ones. So I am making up plug wires that can reuse just the factory boots with new wires and coil pack connectors (Electromotive stuff). I chucked all the old stock stuff that I had around here long ago so I need to get my hands on some boots to make up some more test wires. I have a couple of sets being tested and so far they work great.

Anybody scrounging up some used plug wires get shipping paid plus a decent discount on the new wire sets once I have finished testing them out.

First off the spark plug boots suck, very easy to rip them if you don’t use plug wire pliers (I get a lot of customer cars with ripped boots). Also easy to not get them fully seated on the plug.

After a couple of remove/reinstall cycles the plug wires do not have a firm positive engagement…no ‘click’ .

The more annoying thing is just a general failure – I have seen about half a dozen sets where there is a miss under boost (over 10psi) that cannot be traced to an ‘obvious’ problem. Replace the Magnecores and the problem goes away. The first time I saw this I spent hours tracking it down – I even pulled the head for an inspection – because I figured the Magnecors were only a couple of months old so it could not be them. In the end it was cured by replacing the plug wires. After the first couple of similar problems I started to call it the ‘Magnecore Skip’!

Brian - I seem to recall you had some odd ignition events? It didn’t sound like the same failure…but you never know!

The other plus on making my own wires is I can make them any length and coil connector style….and if somebody really cares there are different colors available!
