Anyone want to guess where this leak is coming from?

One thing to be aware of of is that even very minor leaks can make a lot of mess. The volume of oil leaking might be so little to be undetectable in oil level readings, but even a very thin film of oil can hold a huge amount of dirt on your otherwise nice shiny car parts.
I've had two long standing leaks (that are about to finally get fixed) that made a mess for years (but dropped nothing on the garage floor): rear main seal and transaxle driveshafts. In fact, the engine leaks and burns so little oil in terms of volume that I do not get to the low-level mark on the dipstick between oil changes. And when I changed out the transaxle oil recently, the factory recommended volume (2 litres) was all in there.
So fluid level will give a clue for major leaks, but not necessarilly the (also annoying) minor ones.

In a true act of Karma my internet connation went down right after my ‘sage wisdom’ post and it just came back 12 hours later!
I did have some constructive questions – what does the stuff smell like and feel like? It could be transaxle lube (really bad smell – I hate it!) Grease form a CV – thick greasy or even engine oil. There is a lot of stuff blowing around back there and it can be hard to find the source of the leak – it could be quite a long ways from where the mess is.
I would not be surprised to hear that it is grease…

I will go out later and try to do the smell test ( smelling my car's rear end ... It's like I lost a bet and this is the price I have to pay !! )
I'll let you know what I discover..
Thanks

I had a pretty covered trans as well - I replaced the cooler seals (easy o-rings) and the seals behind the flange shafts...I also think the shift shaft seal is leaking on mine...but that has kept it dry / 1 year counting so far so good...all that was pretty easy to do in an evening.

wow. finally seeing some Bay Area old timers posting here other than Tom...
Where the heck you guys been hiding?
Ed, Clean up that area or have it cleaned. You'd be amazed of how easy it is to find the source of the leak.

Hope all is well with you
I've been hibernating all this time ! Inside my car no less ...
I restarted a project that I began quite a while ago so hopefully once I get this heap on the road we will have to hook up with the OLD boys ...
Kind regards

I am going to look at the PET tonight and see what seals I may need to be replaced.
Were you able to solve that wheel issue ?
Kind regards

The key to fixing leaks is keeping the leaking fluid inside and not letting it leak out.
Are you sure it's not polishing compound overspray?
No insult intended of course Crazy!

Hey Bill I need to ask you, when I get to it ( down the road a bit) , tips on the Dynatech camber plates.... As of now, I have everything out ( struts, brakes etc )
I never received instructions with them, as I did with the bar I bought from them ..
Kind regards

Crazy,
Stock your fridge with cold beer and I might be persuaded to stop by. Make it good cold beer and I will bring my top secret installation instructions. Of course I will have to kill you after you have seen them. I even still have my hood clearance putty they sent with the bar!!
NOTE TO SELF: Stop collecting crap.
