I'm interested in a quick/fast street build. 350-400 WHP would probably be more powerful than I originally thought. I like the idea of focusing on suspension mods, big brakes and upgraded wheels and tires. I've got my eye on D2Forged VS1 wheels (18 or 19" diameter and as wide as possible without altering the fenders) . Thanks again for all the advice. I hope someone can offer information on the maximum wheel/tire sizes for front and rear.

no bigger than 18 without the speed reading being FUBAR, that is unless you can get some ULTRA low profile tires (think sub 20 series)...

no wider than 10 inches in the rear without fender / fender well changes if your car is lowered the 18 inch x 10 WILL require fender rolling and fender well clearancing...

I am running 18x8 and 18x10 (225-35-18 front rubber and 285-30-18 rear rubber), lowered with both front and rear fenders rolled, rears clearanced, and think I still have more work to do on the inside of the right rear fender well...

new suspension, brakes, and rubber can make the car feel brand new...

My partner just purchased a 2002 C4 for 24K US. This car has 68K on the clock and was perfect. I found about two chips on the front, and had perfect interior. I'm telling you, the sports car market just dumped here in the US.

Here is a link to a fun ride for just over 40K us. You Euro guys get a 30% discount on today's exchange rate!!!! Shipping isn't too bad. Should we start an import business.....PM me if you have a dealers license....

I didn't read all the posts, but the quick answer is to buy someone's car that's already been modified. Realistically, car sell for 25 to 50 cents on the dollar. That means for $25k, you can find cars that people have $50k, $60k and $70k into them.

I'm friends with the Stillwell family. He told me that the import taxes and duty are a killer on imported used cars. Chris Stillwell ran the family BMW-Saab dealership here in Tucson prior to going home to Australia. Hi lives in Sydney and runs the Stillwell automotive dealerships.

His father had some success in Formula racing, and was an accomplished pilot. He ran Gates Learjet here in Tucson for many years.

I had 60 in my last 944. To be fair that's a couple different mod configurations and I don't do my own work.

25k really isn't alot of money if you are going to have the work done. 25k is enough to build an okay 944 turbo if you are doing all the work yourself. Its nothing to spend 10k on a basic motor, 3-4k on suspension, 3k on wheels/tires, 1-2k on brakes, what about custom body work??? what about interior???

Stuff adds up quick and yes there are people with well over 100k in their cars. Its EASY to do.

Wanted to add the above quote is including buying the car for 7.

I don't think it hot, and it doesn't fit my desire for a well sorted turbo car. My 951 runs away from him, handles much better, and is a handful for the inexperienced driver.

But for 24K, the AWD 911 NA is much better than most used sports cars for under 25K. Point here is that he got a great car for a great deal. He giggles when the boost hits in my car as a passenger. When he has driven it, he lets up from fear when the tach hits 4K. Completely different cars. He loves polishing, cruising, and the occasional PCA driving event. His 911 is perfect for him, and the cost was even better.

Just to set the record straight. We're in Australia, not Austria. Just a few thousand miles away, and a few thousand years younger.

The other point of interest is that our dollar is currently running at about .91c of the US $1. Yet we pay 2-3 times the amount you guys do on virtually everything. Even the bandits used to wear masks. Our Govt. don't give a **** who knows. We pay something like 100% import duty. So that's double just to start with.
Unfortunately they have also closed down imports as well. Very hard to bring a car in from OS, let alone it being LHD.

Still, it's often sunny down here.

As for the subject in discussion, well.......let me think.....You can go as far as you want. Sky's the limit as you will get into 1 off custom stuff when you get really serious. My advice as someone who has spent a lot on these cars is unless you really do have a lot of money at your disposal, to do your brakes & suspension etc and then do either a Vitesse kit, or decide that you want to go straight to an oversized motor then you could consider a standalone. As others have said, see if you can get a ride in a modified version before you make your final decision.
