Gurney flap adds extra downforce. I'm sure you've seen it before on race car wings and such. They are widely used nowadays in automotive aerodynamics.

Here is a photo more along the lines of this application. The gurney flap in this case is somewhat unconventional, but it is the flap on the lower decklid section. Pretty sure that's what 944CS is referring to.

Thank Alex yes I've seen this on many race cars but never heard it referred to as "Gurney flap" - learn something new every day

Yes this is something we will definitely be doing and the funny thing is here is a pic I've just dug out from the 968 board of this fitted to one of the factory TRS V2 wings posted by PorscheDude1:

^ GREAT pics and what a car

P.S. Nice info on Gurney Flaps over on wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gurney_flap

Yes that's exactly how you should make it haha(referring to decklid). Maybe contour it to match the shape of the wing for extra nice looks Not sure if that will have the same aerodynamic effect as a conventional gurney flap though.

It's called gurney because Dan Gurney invented it.

And by the way, I can't wait to see photos of the completed, or semi completed car. I bet it's unbelievable!

Every time I see a 968TS replica or not, I feel I should have just built one instead of pouring money into my 89 951....I suppose behind the wheel they look the same.....

George just think of it as your next project to look forwards to But hell with your engine build it could make for a fantastic transplate further down the line

I have it scheduled with my insurance company for 50K. Maybe I'll have a freak mishap, and they will total the car...buy it for a few K and get a 968...LOL

Really, behind the wheel, they are identical. Just like the look of the 968 with big wheels, splitter, wing, and it's lines. I will admit, my 951 with your splitter, hood vents, dual light kit, clean Fiske wheels and such isn't something to shrug at. I'm just a fan of one of the best turbo cars Porsche built.

I'm really just missing driving a sorted turbo car. It's been a few months since I've torn things down to deal with the issues that would have been bigger if I didn't take the time to make the car reliable. Fabricating one off parts takes time, money, and patience.

Your aero body parts are pleasing to the eye, and work. Very good combination!

LOL sounds like a plan but you must enjoy the 951 first

Behind the wheel they are as you state pretty much the same driving experience but the 6 speed 968 does feel heaver at the rear and not as well balanced through sweeping corners. The front chassis of the 968 is a little stiffer than that of the 951 but a good strut brace takes care of that.

Either which way your car is going to look stunning

I prefer the front of the 951 but love the back of the 968 much more. a 951 from the front just looks so aggressive

This must by why you are tempting me with a 968 *** for my 951? Know, I'm an *** man, and I agree. Maybe I'll build the best of both breeds and have all your stuff on my 951....Scott Gomes has a customer with a 951 front, and a 968 rear. It looks amazing, but only a few nuts like me, and I'm sure more on this list would see it as I do....

My car is mechanically a 968 from the motor to the transmission. Why not bolt up a great ***...I have surgeons, you have the implant...lol

I actually still prefer the rear of the 951 design wise, if only it could be sealed and modernised like the 968.
There's that outrageous white one in Sweden that has had this done and I think it looks great in parts.
If you look at the proportions of the 2 model cars from the side, the 968 hangs out further from the back wheels where ours are a bit more 'snub'. I think this makes the 968 look a little tail heavy like a 996 sort of thing. IMHO of course.

I've installed a Euro bumper, and do like the 951. I would never do what I've done if it wasn't on the top of the list of best cars to drive and own.

I'm just missing my favorite sports car, and blowing some steam. Behind the wheel, a well sorted 951 is my favorite sports car. I fell better behind the wheel of a well sorted 951 than any other car I've owned or driven.
