Default Shift light

I have a question about the install of a shift light. I have a hot a ground and a tach or coil wire to hook up. My question is do I tap into the tach wire or can I hook it up to the coil on the 951?

The shift light is because you guys say and I am convinced that I need to quit hitting fuel cut and or spinning the motor past 6800 on a stock bottom end!

I am still use to shifting when the power falls off, but this doesn't work on my 951 hence the shift light.

Usually gets hooked up to tach wire, I have mine connected to the tach output on the MSD 6AL.
