Default Dyno results for my 87 951 and friends Solstice

Went back to the same dyno I was at last week with the Silver Rose but this time I had the black 87 951. Brad (ilikemy944) brought his 86 951 along and a friend of mine with a Pontiac Solstice GXP was there too.

87 951 - Vitesse maf/chipboard, sfr 3" exhaust, lindsey super 61 turbo, tial 38mm, 2.7 liter intake valves in slightly ported head, Webcam #274 cam, 55lb injectors, 3 bar FPR - peaking at 18lbs of boost.

86 951 - Brad has his own thread up for his results

08 Pontiac Solstice GXP - 2 liter 16 valve turbo straight 4. Stock except for an ECU tune. Peaked at 22lbs of boost but mostly running around 18lbs.

Added my sheets below....

Not sure as dynos are too different, but post the chart for the '87. Be interesting to see with the head/cam combo.

Nice. what are the four lines at the bottom AFR?
That solstice has a lot of torque.

Not bad for 17 psi and that turbo.

Hey Drew - Yep - guess it is a simliar turbo to what you are running - same exact housing at least. Have you dynoed your car lately?

Edit: Looks like a lot of different turbo use that housing My bad - not up on all the different turbo terminology!

That Solstice has a very unusual torque curve?

I would have thought your power curve would hold on for longer up top with that head too, but 322whp is nice all the same.

We think the Solstice jumped in and backed off boost at around 5k. My friend used the HP Tuner setup on his car and he logged a bunch of stuff but he hasn't studied it all yet. It was colder weather - maybe 40 degrees outside.

Here is a link to a video of my car on the dyno.

Small turbo is choking the Solstice motor up top. Good torque, no HP. Typical production turbo car.

Josh, you guys are having too much fun. I'm sure Arthur appreciate it as well

I have a few questions, hopefully by answering, I'll be able to understand what is going on with the dyno chart a bit better.
- Any idea why your power starts to drop at 6100rpm, with a reworked head and a cam, I would expect it to stay on a bit longer.
- When do you hit 1bar boost in 4th gear. You can probably get this from the Zeitronix log.
- At 17.5psi boost which you dynoed at, were you running the pump or race gas maps.
- The AFR looks very steady, is this with the MAF by itself?

I want to see this car and the Silver Rose.

Hey John,

Yup - Arthur appreciated the business. I think once he figured out we weren't ricers he warmed up a bit I had my tuning laptop there as did my buddy with the Solstice.

Looking at the Zeitronix I am think that the tial 38mm isn't holding that 17.5 psi to redline - seems to be dropping off at the higher rpms down to 17lbs or high 16s. Also earlier in the curve I was running closer to 11.9/12 A/f and after 6 it started to richen up to 11.7/11.6.

Not hitting a bar till just under 4k - wish that was closer to 3.5k

Dyno run was done on pump fuel. On my mid 16/17lb boost run I got 310hp and had 9 counts on the knock sensor. On the run pictured I picked up 13 counts.

I do have the piggeyback hooked up along with the MAF. Seems like with the SMT6 set to 0 the car runs a good bit leaner than with just the terminal plug attached so I am not sure if all the richening I've added in is because of that or the bigger intake valves.

Would be great to show you both cars. Are you ever in the Norcross area? I should try to make it out to one of the cars and coffee events at the Avenues soon too.

I can email you the Zeitronix logs if you would find them interesting.

Hi Josh,

Arthur is a good guy, I wish his shop was a bit closer. Did you see his wild Supra?

- Based on the Zeitronix log above, it doesn't sound that you are dropping boost. Maybe you are seeing something taht I'm missing.

- 1bar at 4000rpm explains the shape of the torque curve.

- Once you go over 1bar boost on pump gas, it's normal to see some knock. There are many variables that will affect this (cam, turbo,..). One reason why I recommend max 15psi on pump gas.

- It's normal to have to add a bit of fuel once you install the PB. You can experience a voltage drop because of the various solder joints in the wiring, as well as when going through the PB. Of course, there are different places in the PB where you can richen or lean the mixture, did you verify that everything is set properly?

- I've been to a couple of the coffee events. Maybe we can get a few people together for the next event (weather permitting). Who knows, I might have another turbo by then...

- Sure send the file over.

Any possible boost leaks? As I am running the LR Super 75 and I see 1 bar in 4th at about the same time; 3,800 or so.
