Default Early engine block 84 in a 951 86!!!!!

Can a earlier engine block (84) be use in a 86 turbo?? I have a friend with this problem, he have the 84 block already. I know that the problem is the oil line to the turbo, have anyone do a conversion or modification to get the line to the turbo, please advice. Thanks in advance

He only has the block? The balance shaft covers were matched to the blocks at the factory, but I don't know if that can be corrected. Also, I don't know if the oil pump from the '86 block is compatible with the '84 block.

Do you still have the turbo engine to pirate parts?
The cover or bearing cap (depending on the style) can be line honed to match.

no problem at all ..the oil line is very strait forward you just need a couple of drills and a tap ..
And if you are considering for a minute turboing a NA engine E85 is the answer josh and sid will back me up ...

My car does not use the balance shaft housing for the oil feed, but instead has a cartridge filter system with AN fitting/line running to the turbo.

The Cartridge filter is a canton racing product, but in a similar vein you can use an "oil filter sandwich"

I believe you can use the block, balance shaft covers and girdle from the 84, as long as all the other parts are from a 951 (e.g. rods, pistons, head, intake, turbocharger, crossover, headers, cross-over, AOS, DME, KLR, oil filter mount, 951 oil pan (for turbo oil return) etc.). No guarantees you'll get acceptable piston-wall clearances though if you go with used mix-matched parts...

the early motors also didnt have line bored balance shaft housings like the 87+ cars- the balance shaft cover is separate from the bearing blocks. Should be on the turbo 86 block too. Only real thing i would worry about is the piston sizes v. bores.

If your 84 block does not have an oil-feed from the balance shaft (horrible location anyway, IMO). Then the simplest solution would be to get a T-fitting for the pressure sensor (like this Click me) and then run a A/N line over to your turbo.
Easy, done.

Some of the early 944NA blocks have much thinner cylinder walls. Compare those. If they are thin,
I would not use that block on a turbo. We wouldn't want to build a NA motor with them. All other issues are doable.
