Rather than start a new thread, I thought I would add to this existing one.

When I bought my car a few weeks ago, it had an older lead acid battery (which I don;t care fore) and thought it would be a great opportunity to install a new Odyssey PC680.

Rather than buy the $140+ Rennline PC680 aluminum kit, I bought a generic kit for $80 online and hand made the base to fit the 944 battery area.

After a few hours of measuring, cutting and shaping I was done and saved 25lbs in the process. I used felt pads under the base (what you would put under furniture legs to prevent floor scraping) to make it secure.

Here's what I started with:
40lbs



Then I made a cardboard template:


Then cut my base out of 0.125" thick aluminum flat stock, the drilled holes are for fun.

Installed - nice and secure in the car:
