AC delete - factory vs lindsey bracket?
Hi,
Was researching AC deletes and see there are (at least) two bracket options. Lindey's looks nice and weights a tad less and is a few bucks more.
Any other differences that would impact my choice or other vendors to consider? Also, if you have a used one, I could be a buyer.
Couldn't find anything about this specific topic in search....

This bracket is a good set up. They sell all you need including the bolts and belt in one kit.
It is done by some local race guys and is a very nice Bracket!!!!!!

I have bought several billet ones from Dave Derecola of 944 Cup. The factory one is ridiculously heavy compared to the billet model. I have two and they have been plenty durable for racing use.

I used the billet/plate type, but ended up making up a shim/spacer from my old bracket, to make up the gap on the top two bolts. That way I could use the oriiginal long bolts, and all the factory brackets bolt up. The longer the bolt the more stretch and less risk of loosening. I also wanted to retain the additional intake manifold support, and cooling elbow support. Its hard enough to hold a race car together, I try not to take shortcuts.
If I had the choice I would have used the factory bracket. I may even change mine out at some point. As always, Porsche did a nice job, its a hollow casting, and the weight is not that much more than the billet ones, thick in all the right places and all the supports are retained.

Can someone expand on the "intake mount bracket" discussion? I'm not too familiar with what lives under the intake manifold....
I'm assuming there's a support do-hickey under the intake manifold that get's affected (lost?) with these a/c delete setups?
Is the Porsche factory bracket the only one that allows you to retain this support?

The intake manifold has two additional supports. The rear one by the filler neck has the two vertical screws. The front one is a slotted bracket. The front intake mount bracket uses the top rear alternator bracket bolt. The factory bracket has a cast in pin that helps locate the bracket. The top front AC bracket bolt also bolts the front lifting eye and there is a bracket that supports the water pipe.
I made a spacer by cutting up my old bracket, which was being thrown away anyway, so it was just my time. I retained the front face just like the factory. I cut off the backside of my old bracket to 40mm thick (I think), and kept it as a two bolt spacer. You could use simple 40mm spacers one for each bolt, but the rear bracket interface wouldn't be as good as factory (IMO)
It probably wouldn't be a problem if the brackets were being left off, but for me it cost nothing to replicate the factory, just my time. From my perspective leaving them off adds risk with no benefit.
