Question Let's talk about the coolant pump...again...Upgrades?

So my turbo coolant pump leaks.

I have been searching and searching but find little information on after market or alternative pumps for cheaper. Some ramblings about a Mercedes pump, but no real details.

Any one found an after market alternative?

Use something like the Bosch Audi pump?

Every post I have read so far indicated that the pump was non rebuildable?! Do you have pics or a link?

i did it a while ago so i don't remember the exact details. you pull the pump out and once its out take the two halves apart. sealing the halves is an o-ring the flattens out over time and begins to leak. i just took the o-ring and pump to a local autoparts store and bought a new o-ring for like 50 cents. put it all back together and no problems since.

The plastic housing can be rebuilt. If has four screws holding the bottom cap on, that faces the ground when its installed. Theres an O-Ring in there. If its leaking out the area between the plastic housing and motor, no nothing that can be done there.

Anyone running one of those? Looks like the same pump with just a different plug.

I used the Mercedes pump 2 yrs ago. I canged the pump cover (used my orig Porsche unit) as the impeller and all other parts save the electrical plug were the same. Used weather proof splices to reuse the original Porsche electrical plug.

Thanks for the link. Looks like a Mercedes pump can be had for about $70 and converted in less than an hour.
