K27/6

it hits hard and pulls hard to redline. Kinda reminds me of a 2-stroke
race bike...that same kind of powerband.
I've resisted "upgrading" to a newer turbo...specifically VR Stage II,
as some have stated the power delivery is very linear, almost like a V-8.
I really, really enjoy the non-linear "2-stroke" powerband feel.

Why not just bolt the K27 on as is?? why destroy 2 good turbos to make one that is a bit of a compromise .. and any loss in responsiveness can be reclaimed by a 3" exhaust...
There are no downsides to a 3" exhaust. there is a down side to a KKK#6 hot side ..
Porsche and much of rennlist don't feel a #6 kkk hotside is big enough for a 250 hp car let alone a 300+hp car wich is the hopefull outcome ..
although its 10 years since i looked at one but i thought that K27 on the 745 was a lot bigger physicly
but then again the 745 was only 260hp ...

Don't get me wrong, it hits plenty hard and pulls all the way to redline, it's just not that big initial spike like you get with the K26/6 and then tapering off as the revs rise.
I should have added earlier that I have a Bursch test pipe and an otherwise stock 2.5 inch exhaust. Didn't mean to give the impression I'm not happy with it, I've been running it for four years and I'm very satisfied, especially for the price and the ease of installation. That said, it'd sure be fun to play with E85 and some big boost numbers...

When I had my last 951S with the stock K26-8 Greg and I did a little back to back "testing". I felt his car spooled close to the same as my car, didn't hit with quite the ferocity, but held boost longer in the rev range.
The cars were very closely matched speed wise...

Here's the thing with frankenturbos... there are many parts that can be a cold housing on a K/27, so it's suspect what you have, which wheel it is on the 745 etc. The way that I remember them made in the heyday of this turbo is a K/27 wheel (I don't recall the # of blades) and the matching cold housing backing plate with the rest coming from the donor k-26's, center cartridge and turbine with housing.
I really like this turbo on the street, it's smooth, linear and can hold the boost to redline. Spoolup is as about as good as a k-26 and you can do some tricks to free up the back pressure... clip the turbine, or this new trick: Chris over at Turbokraft has a turbobuilder who can make a K27/6 with a #8 shaft and keep your #6 housing and have it machined out.
They sure are cheap too.

every one has been happy with thir mongrel sorry "hybrid" turbos but every one has also been happy with a full K27 also ..
let me put it in simple numbers each turbo is worth say 150 for the 26 and 400 for the 27 you then take them to the turbo man he destroys them both takes 400 from you and hands you one turbo so this thing has suddenly cost 950$ wow .. ok so hock the 26 bolt the 27 on and your $500 up i promise this will more than compensate you for the apparent lag..
here is a bit of a list of possible things could do with that $500 all them help make a car less laggy ..
or you could simply wait around rennlist for 2 weeks and until some good deals come up as they always do ..

A K27DR is not $500 better then any K27...
I like the K27/8 for what it is, but it is definitely laggier then my old K27DR.
I have no interest in switching to a K27/6. The #6 hotside just won't support the type of power I'm used to.
I'll be switching soonish to an Holset, HY35. Not shooting for much more power (~400rwhp), just looking for better spool and transient response.

I think I understood about what you claim.
The BMW is 3.5litre it seems. I have quotations in mm turbo, but the reference on the plate is slight. ... ... K27 just.
the cold part is
170mm diameter at the snail 180mm with different screw
70/50mm input and output 50/42
Why do i 2 turbo one? Because I have the 2 in stock
