Default Thinking about buying a dyno

I came across an older Dynojet dyno for sale... Thinking about picking it up and trying to make a little money with it.

How much do people usually pay for dyno time?

Think people would pay to use it as a tuning tool? (Porsche and non-Porsche people.)

It's an inertia style, and goes up to 600 HP.

$75-100 for 3 pulls, or $100+ per hour is ballpark for shops in the upper midwest.

Van if you get it cheap, I'm pretty sure you'll make money. How accurate is this dyno?

european performance labs is in stratford, ct...i know the owner. He tuned my friend tim's turbo r32 who owns the endless details shop in my username. Tony at EPL really doesnt make time for the dyno. I think you would have to work with him on tuning or something to get it. but you could contact him.

There is also The Shop in norwalk, ct. Thats where i had my car dyno'd to see what it made.

I hope it is really cheap. We had a Mustang dyno and did not make us money. It was used as a tuning tool for us, but definitely not a wise investment from a making $$ standpoint, granted it was a very expensive dyno as well. We use to charge $100 for 2-3 runs with AFR, and were the only 4wd dyno in the KC metro area. The other places that had 2wd dynojets were charging 45 for 2-3 pulls, so it was really hard to compete with. Make sure you have a hude disclaimer form for people to sign as well.

BTW if you a 4wd mustang dyno with less than 150hours wheel time, I know where there is one for sale, lol.

I had messaged Tony, but haven't heard anything back. I know he isnt much of a fan of having a dyno day, but i'm trying to set something up with him and my friend's shop. Trying to get my friends detailing and customization business out there

It's all about how you advertise it and how much demand there is for it! I know there are 4 or 5 in Albuquerque, NM and they all make a decent amount of money off it. Events and etc. help a lot too...

keep in mind - some consumers will want the age and last time your dyno was calibrated/serviced.

Also consider if there is a breakdown can you afford to repair the dyno - to make $$ you will likely spend a fair bit of effort getting customers, that will all be for not if you can't afford to fix your dyno. May want to calculate a single failure into your operating costs if you actually plan to make money over the long haul.
