Heater Core Question

One of the heater core pipes sticking out of the firewall in the engine compartment is rusting/collapsing on my car. Is the pipe that sticks out into the engine compartment part of the heater core itself, or are there connecting pipes between the ones that come off the heater core and the ones that stick out into the engine compartment?
In other words, do the copper colored pipe ends in this picture feed through the firewall into the engine compartment, or are there other pipes that connect up to the core?

The parts catalog show a connecting pipe between the heater core and the fire wall connection

Thanks. My computer crashed so I am without my regular resources for a while. Are both pipes identical, or did you mean to post different part numbers?

Removing the core is shown here without taking off the dash, cowl, etc.

Can anyone confirm that the pipes protruding into the engine bay (i.e., the pipes the heater hoses connect to) are actually the ends of the hard pipes that run from the core to the firewall?

I don't actually need to replace my core, I would just like to replace the metal pipes running from the core to the fire wall, since the portion that sticks out into the engine comparment is damaged and doesn't seal well.
Removing the core is shown here without taking off the dash, cowl, etc.

I'm guessing that's not the case on the later cars. The diagram does not show any additional clamps or connectors at the firewall hardware, so I've assumed the pipes inside the engine bay are just the ends of those pipes. Lart is checking to see if he has a set, so hopefully that will let us know for sure.

The 968 DIY you posted a link to, makes them look like ruber over copper... hmmmm...

They look like rubber covered copper when I crank my head under there too. I just can't quite tell what's holding them in place until I dig in -- hoping Lart might report in after checking it out on one of his parts cars.
