12" or 14" sound extremely long for the rear! are you sure that's right?
Richard,
Thanks for the list, I will shoot you an email once I get a kit to use them on.

And according to this link, the rear kits call for either 12" or 14" springs! lol

The Bilstein HDs can be converted to a coilover, similar to 968 M030. See above.

Bilstein can do this work for you. They are not suitable for TB delete though.
That's not a bad idea.... can you provide any more info about this? Do I need to send my HD's directly to Bilstein to have them do this? And also, howcome the TB delete would be unsuitable? (out of curiosity)

Just went outside to measure them out of curiosity, they measure out to 5.5" compressed with the car sitting on the ground... and being 550# springs IIRC, I'm not sure what length that would equate to when uncompressed... must be around 7 though?

Wow, didn't know that. Think I might actually look into that though.

could be. I sent the first set of springs back because they were to long. DEFINITELY not 12 or 14 though.

The reason you can NOT (oops typo) go t-bar delete on the HD conversion is that
1. they aren't stiff enough.
2. Too make them so, the springs would have to be WAY too stiff for the rebound/comp of the shocks.
3. Why would ya.

I'm leaving my t-bars alone on my 87. There's no real reason to screw with them unless you will often need to adjust ride heaight and spring rates for track use.
For a road car it's not needed.

BTW, you should check the rear bushings on the 951. They may be getting well worn.

my t bars are definitely staying in. I want stock ride height anyways, just a bit stiffer. Honestly the stock ride height is already pretty low and perfect for the street. No lip either, just looks silly on a road car -oooh a rennlist sin to say such things =[

I see.

Well the height adjustability is going to be key on this car, since my two sets of wheels will be 17"s with your normal profile tire, and a set of 15"s with low profile tires (believe it or not) so when I swap sets I'll have to adjust height accordingly or to my liking. Otherwise I would just throw some stiffer TB's in there adjust them as low as possible and call it a day.

So I'll need a set of rear coilovers built to withstand the TB delete.

The photo is of a 944 suspension kit sold in Sweden. http://www.forzasuspension.se/sidor/special/mitt.html

The rear coilover is called BRR-0036 and is 300/120 valving with an 85lb/in spring, 1-7/8" ID. http://www.forza.se/listor/Bilstein%...are%20Kund.PDF

The shock looks identical to the B36-2052 HD shock for the 944. I don't know the valving for the HD.

Bilstein can convert any shock to a coilover. You have to talk to the right person though. They cut a circlip groove in the shock body and fit a spring seat or threaded tube. The top seat is a bit trickier but they can adapt a spring perch to suit. As you can see it mounts below the standard bump stop steel tube. You can choose to revalve them at the same time.

I have a brand new pair of HD's still boxed up ready to send to the Bilstein tech, with whom I discussed the above. In the end I kicked it up a notch and shelled out for the H&R RSS coilover/torsion delete setup.

Here's a spreadsheet I've been using to collate useful Bilstein info. As you can see, there are some cheap VW Bilsteins that look interesting.

Hope this helps!

Ah, in that case it's a very good idea to replace the spring plate bushing, amongst a few other things.

Mike, Thank you for the information... I did not know that was even possible! I think my setup is needing the TB delete but it sounds as if 951_RS might want to consider this option!

I'd like to, but does any place sell them cheaper than Elephant or Lindsey for $300 bucks? At that price, there's no way I'll be able to afford them. Or are you referring to the OEM or Weltmeister rubber $18 bushings?

This shiznit is so expensive! Wish I could just buy it all and all at once though.

The only product that I would buy is the Elephant Racing monoball.
BTW, put them on both cars.
Glad I could kick ya when you're down.
It will survive without, but needs to go on your list.

I'll definitely be considering this. In fact I think I'll just buy some HD's now and have them retrofitted with that later when I'm ready. Right now I just need the car to handle better than a widebody ghetto cruisa rolla

Hey drift, do you have any videos of you drifting your 944.

Haha thanks E.
I'll have to see if I can scrounge up a styrofoam cup to go begging on the street corner for the next couple months!!
For now I'll just take the TBars out, and later down the road (like next friggen year!) I'll drop the hammer on a few sets of those fancy bronze things. Labor wise I can do it twice without much complaining, its the chipping away of my wallet that gets me at this day in age.

Thus my thread in search of some used rear coilovers collecting dust or something. Still have my hopes up slightly.

Haha nice! Good plan btw too.

As for vids.. Ehh I do, but they are kinda old and I'm not too fond of them. N/A 944 power sucks once you get used to a 951. The current supercharger build will help out with that. I'm looking forward to getting some new videos that will be worthwhile to watch.

Here's a really short recent vid of the 951 drifting. http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pi...subj=302300532

Anyway, still on the quest for some used coilovers if anyone has some!!

BTW, the best grease for the Polybronze is SKF LGEV2 http://www.mapro.skf.com/pub/pds/LGEV2_datasheet_e.pdf
I like it even better than Mobil SHC1500.

And for the other suspension mounts and bushes, go here: http://www.racersedge-inc.com/

Even though they cost me an arm and a leg in NZ dollars, they're worth it.
