Default Big Reds?

What is a good price to pay for just the calipers from a 996tt? Edit: rotors and pads included.

You can get brand new 928 GTS (big blacks) Calipers from Sunset for $20x.00
New rotors run $120-200/each depending on what ones you decide to go with.
Not sure what pads run.

I am pretty sure you cant get big blacks for two hundred bucks and change (I rang them about 8 months ago) unless prices have fallen crazy!

$218.30 + shipping according to this post: https://rennlist.com/forums/7069998-post5.html
This thread: https://rennlist.com/forums/944-turb...ds-bought.html

Previouse prices I had seen were in the $280/caliper region so I too was surprised with that quote.

The big blacks through sunset are more than they used to be. I purchased some earlier in the year:

Calipers are $335.00 each= big blacks
Rotors are $195.00 each= 3.6 turbo

I think those are the 951S/928S4 calipers for that price. That post (from my thread) confused me at the time. Big blacks are from 928GTS, and are basically the same as big reds.

They are the GTS part numbers (see links below). Perhaps somebody should talk to Sunset to double check that pricing?..or maybe they're on sale/clearance? Or sunset looked up S4 calipers but didn't note the part numbers in the quote....who knows

The price I posted above was from about six months ago, and they were cheaper than anywhere else I saw at the time.

The 996 mono blocks are different than the Big Reds or Blacks, doing a quick google will show you that the 6 piston twin turbo are around $4k for the upgrade kit where the 4 piston version is around $600 for the calipers. I have the 4 piston version and they provide more than sufficient stopping power.

The big reds and the big blacks change pricing all the time - some times red is cheaper and some times black is!

They are different parts - but the only difference is which side the crossover tube and bleeders are mounted. The Reds have to have the tube and bleeder swapped to work in our cars.

Caught this too! 996tt Are the mono blocks. They are more expensive. The more common big brake upgrade is the 993tt style 2 piece calipers. Im wondering if the original posters is aware of the difference? Seems possible since he specifically asked for the 996. Rotor use is still the same between calipers, but Adapter will have to be different since the bolt hole spacing on the 996tt mono blocks are wider than the "big red/blacks"

Speaking of... Bob, where did you get your adapters from? I need a set! (Haven't gotten that far on my build yet.

Thanks for the replies. Yes 996tt calipers. I have a lead on a set with rotors for 600. So I'm wondering both if this is a good enough deal to scoop 'em up even with the financial pressure the holidays force upon us and what pieces are necessary to adapt them to our car.

As long as they're reliably working, Seems like a good deal to me. That's about what I paid for my fronts without rotors. If the rotors actually work with this combo, then its a great deal.

To make them work.. (Bleeders are in the correct position already, so no worries there) You need the proper discs. And the correct caliper adapter, that Bob here seems to have already.. I sent him a PM, I suggest you do the same. He has clearly already done the leg work.. This freakin forum has saved me so much research time, its truly ridiculous.

Hi guys. Been reading lots of post and thought of this reminder for anyone doing big red brake upgrades.

http://www.lindseyracing.com/LR/Parts/BIGREDS.html

It's a must read for anyone who is unsure of their setups

hope this might help.
