Default Gauge Power

Ok, so finally I got some time to install my AEM A/F and boost gauges this weekend. Where are you guys connecting for power?

I ran power/ground for my Zeitronix A/F to the DME. I was already splicing down there installing my Vitesse piggyback, so thought what the hell.

My boost gauge is just split off the power line for the stereo.

Maybe I should do the same since I'm going to connect the boost pipe by the KLR.

I have a boost gauge installed now with no power going to it =[ Which wire is power wire for the stereo or dme, I already have the boost line teeing off the klr anyhow.
That will also help for when I install my aem wideband later on.

Not sure where, If I got time tonight I'll check the schematics.

Well I'm still unsure where I'm going to tap for power. Once I get the O2 Bung installed then I'll make my decision. I'm going to see if I can get a spare fuse connection on my fuse box that gets power once the key is turned on. I'll share what I find.

I will post when I get back home, but there is an easy spot that only requires a simple female spade crimp connector.

Edit: Theres for sure one for gauge illumination, but there should be for power too. Which do you need?

The radio wiring usually works great for switched power. For illumination I splice off the ashtray light wiring.

now that I think of it...one of the main reasons I dropped it over there was that I was having some AFR issues and thought it was a ground problem. I initially had it wired up to where the stereo was and re-wired to the DME just to make sure nothing crazy was going on.

Turns out, cleaning the grounds and such definitely helped...but John @ Vitesse re-flashed my chip after he made some mods to the idle programming and it fixed it right up. Runs like a top now.

Can't hurt though if you're already down there...easy to find the pin-out for the DME...IIRC, the red/yellows are +12v and the brown/yellow's are ground. For my boost gauge, I ran a completely new silicon hose through the firewall into the battery area and then directly to the intake. I didn't want to jack with that hose off the KLR. I had to take the glove box out to get the hose through, but it wasn't that big of a PITA and in the end worth it...

Wideband definitely needs a good ground...usually to the motor. I've had problems with grounding to the cabin/chassis before with widebands.

For my boost gauge, I ran power from the gauge cluster dimmer switch, and grounded to the instrument cluster mounts. No problems so far.

Thanks, yeah I need to know what wire to use for illumination on my boost gauge. I guess I can go off the dimmer switch so that it only gets power when the headlights are turned on. Does clark's garage have a good diagram of these wires perhaps?

Just wanted to bump this thread, I recently got my bung for my o2 installed and routed everything. Only thing left is to splice the power and ground cables into the correct spots. So far I'm thinking I'll use the wires coming from pin 17 (ground) and 18 (power supply relay G5-87) from the DME.
Is there any reason I shouldn't do that?

Drew the guy that installed mine, got the power under the dash from a block that has about 6 wires. All good so I think you should have no problems, as long as you don't leave nothing touching(Electrical tape).
