Default Block differences

My 951 block cylinder got cracked. Is it possible to change it to a 944NA block?
Do the blocks have any differences?

944 blocks are the same 87+. If you go with pre 87 you won't have the auto tensioner. When you get to 83-85 I believe the water temp sensor is different. Only difference between a turbo block and NA is that the plug is pulled out on the upper balance shaft for the turbo oil line.

OPRV valves are different in blocks 87 and up as well as is the oil gallery in which the oprv valve seats. Also the balance shaft cover on the 87 and up blocks are one piece that include the balance shaft bearing journal. The turbo side balance shaft cover on 87 and up blocks do not have a provision to accept and 86 oil feed line. In order to use a 86 feed line in an 87 you must trim the tab on the feed line so it can bolt straight to the block. There may be a couple of other small details I am missing

Earlier NA blocks (pre 85) have smaller oil journals feeding the mains.

Really? I have an turbo oil feed line from an 86 that seems to fit just fine on my 88 block. What tab are you talking about?

I read some where that the oil pumps are different as well (Clarks garage article I believe).

The 951 pump is higher volume? I don't know if this is true or not.

The tab near the banjo bolt fitting. Your oil line doesn't have it... I have noticed that some don't have it but every 86 original oil feed I have seen has it. Your line doesn't look original.
