Default Diaphragm Damper

What does the diaphragm damper do on the fuel system? I am suspecting it just keeps fuel pressure more even?

What happens if its removed.

I have removed them.

All I have noticed is that the injectors are louder. I imagine it is used to help keep the fuel pressure more stable when the injectors pulse and possibly to keep them working longer.
