I have to say. The 80's 911 is a VW bettle with a bigger engine

that's not a fast car for now, back then yes...but the 951 was as fast...
my 4 door does 0-60 in 4.5 sec and will be 900 ft ahead after 1 km...
0-60 in 5.5, I believe it, it's anomoly, good launch, good surface, good weather...but average is closer to 6...the 6 tests I have seen average 5.7-5.9 to 60

as far as sound, yes the F6 does sound better, but it does not generate more torque...the I4 Turbo does, and over a much wider band...

the BEST engine I've ever heard (exotics excluded) is the BMW I6 M3 engines with 6 TB's...wide torque band (90% from 2500 to redline), high HP and 8000+ redline...

value: go spend 20k (car plus mods) on an 86 951 and 911, and see which is faster...not even close

if they could start all over, the 911 would NOT be a rear engined car...
if it is such a fundementally good design why does no one else use it? it's not, it's a poor compromise
why are the newer designs mid engined?

he made due with what he had: VW chassis/engines and rebodied them..fact

now, if people love the car, more power to them, it is a fine car, it's quirky and got panache...but it's not a particular well engineered or fundementally sound design...

Casio vs IWC/Rolex/etc.
Casio is cheaper, more durable, more versitile, more accurate...
by any measure a 'better' watch...
but which would you rather own? Rolex or casio?

it's not all about speed...people like MG's, etc., the experience is part of the equation, it's 'weighting' or priority is up to the individual...but to say the 911 or the 951 is a better car is impossible, subjective and moot...

A 911 is a 911...you either get it or you don't. Stats, specs, and performance figures don't tell you the whole story. It's the total driving experience that isn't told by articles, papers, or the internet.

Drive one. There's a reason why the car has been around since 1963. The driving experience is completely different than anything I have ever driven. Amazing. One hell of a raw, mechanical vehicle.

I owned a lates 70's model 911, put >70k miles on it...wasn't impressed
my 1976 2002 was as fast and a better all around car...

it's completely different because it's the only rear engined car around...
others have moved on, admitted their mistakes, and re-designed...

an 1968 f250 is a raw, mechanical vehicle...not one I'd choose to drive though

Don't drag your knuckles when you walk to the car and don't bang that forehead on the roof when getting in. Then again, you've got the unibrow to cushion the blow.

Sure a $20k 951 with mods will be faster than a $20k 911...you can pick up a 951 for $3k and basically replace everything in it. Depreciation doesn't hit as hard on products that are coveted....

'coveted'?
now the car is biblical in proportions....errrr riiight

I'd rather be a knuckle dragger than smug and unfunny
perhaps you should be driving a prius and saving the Earth

you 911 guys need to get a sense of humor, wait, you do...you drive an over priced VW bug (squashed)
but the joke is 'on' you, not 'by' you

I'll be the first to call BS on that one. A 120hp 2002 that weights 2400lbs with inline 4 torque vs a 170hp 2700hp car with flat 6 torque? But then again, anything on the internet must be true right?

I like the 951, there's no need to feel like the red headed step child and bring down the favorite just to make yourselves look good.

Remember, you can make any car go fast, but you can't make every car cool.

imho the best 'series' Porsche ever built was the 928
the best single car, the 997 GT3
problem is cars costing 60% as much (Z06, GTR) will smoke it...

re: 997 a 4 door M3 is faster around the 'Ring...my RS4 is faster than the 997, and almost as fast as the 997S

Nine 11 this is the type of talk of the 911 snobbery, I know this thread was started by Sebastian to Bash 911, most of us have said good things about them. Here is my question, have you driven a 951, if no than you are being as narow minded as everyone bashing 911.

Oh and BTW, my comment about corvairs, comes from my experience. I have owned several corvairs and they do give you the same sensations.
