I am going to the dark side (LS1) so my motor is for sale. Located in Cincinnati, OH. PM me, e-mail me at alan_arkus at y@h00 dot com, or call (513) 226-2183 if you're interested.
Price for everything below is $2500 OBO. If you just want the long block, I am asking $1250 for that. The other items will only be sold separately after the long block is sold. Or, if you want the long block and some of the other parts, make an offer.
It is a completely stock, never modded, '86 turbo motor with 125k miles, still sitting in the car and driven 2 days ago until my clutch fork broke. I will leave it in the car until sold in case someone wants to do a PPI (start it up, compression test, etc.). Everything is in good running condition.
- Stock 2.5L long block
- Sport clutch kit w/ 930 disk with less than 5k miles
- Stock 26/6 turbo (replaced 5k miles ago and in great condition)
- Stock 2-piece crossover
- Stock exhaust headers with expansion baffles
- Stock DME, KLR, and engine harness
- Stock AFM and intake
- Stock airbox with K&N filter
- Stock intercooler and pipes
- Stock diverter valve
- Stock fuel rail with aftermarket fuel pressure gauge
- Stock wastegate
- Stock exhaust
- PS pump, A/C compressor, alternator, and all belts included
- Bell housing
I would recommend the following be done before re-installing the long block: Timing belt and water pump (last changed 25k miles ago), oil pan gasket, rear main seal. Other than that, it is good to go. Front seals and turbo were replaced a year ago.
I have owned this car for almost 5 years and left the motor totally stock so as not to sacrifice reliability. Other than normal street driving, it has seen about 15 track days and 5 autocrosses. It has been very dependable and runs strong. The only problems I have had with it are:
- Oil leak from cam cover gasket (replaced by Porsche dealer 3 years ago and no problems since)
- High fuel pressure due to failed FPR (replaced 1 month ago)
- Hard to start due to reference sensor connectors. It happens rarely, and is always fixed by jiggling the connectors. I bought new connectors, but never installed them (will be provided with motor if you want them).
- Slow oil leak from the oil pan gasket (leaves small drops on floor, but not enough to noticeably affect the oil level between changes)

Thanks Ben. Don't hold your breath, though, I'm sure it's going to take me a while. My goal is to have it together by the spring, but I've never undertaken a car project like this, and I want to do it right, so it will take as long as it takes.

Oh boy! Can't wait to see this one evolve... I guess Dan's garage is going to be full for a while or are you doing it at home!

The car is at my place now. I'm planning to pull out the turbo motor and do as much of the wiring and other stuff as I can myself. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the big stuff ends up happening back in Dan's garage, though.

I am getting ready to do the V8 swap also. I already bought my donor T/A. All I have to do is get my 951 to pass California emissions so I can get it registered and then pull the engine. I think the best source of information on this swap that I have found on the net is over at 944hybrids - http://944hybrids.forumotion.com/forum.htm . Lots of good stuff on the V8 conversion there. Also the Administrator of the site has a new swap manual for sale. You can see it on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/The-P...sQ5fLiterature .
If you are considering a "kit" the consensus on the net seems to be not to use Renegade Hybrids. There is another place out of Florida, German Speedshop, www.germanspeedshop.com . I have swapped emails with Ernest Johansmeier 407-591-2300 over there but I personally havent found anyone who has posted about thier kit. So that may be a crap shoot.
Good luck!
Ted
