Default Yet another offset question

I know I know, you guys are probably tired of these...why can't all these people just learn? I don't know, it always confuses me!

A friend is selling a set of 18 inch wheels. They are 18x8 front and 18x10 rear with an offset of 50 front and 40 rear.

Will these fit a late M030 car with no spacers?

If not then what would be ideal offsets for a late M030 car?

TIA for any input!

40 offset will stick out too far in the rear, no way to make that work with spacers. I have ET46 in the rear with 17x9 and had rubbing issues with 275's. Can't see it working with a 18x10 with that low an offset.

There seems to be a general hesitancy in regards to making certain subjects into a sticky. I would vote for this subject to be bundled somewhere so that anyone who needs some help on the subject can easily access this without feeling stupid for not knowing. Don't worry we all forget stuff.
Having said that, there are enough references for things like this so that you can save them to your desktop.
Late offset will need pretty much et 60 for a 10" wide rear Darwin. Also do yourself a favour and go for a wider than 8" front with your incoming power hike. I have been tracking my car with 265-285s on the front so depending on your suspension and car setup, you want to go for as wide up front as you can if you're going to do some serious fast driving....IMHO....

Hmm...good suggestion. I do intend to take the car to a few DE events per year. Right now I'm running the stock M030 suspension so I'll do some research into how wide I can go on the front. Thanks!

LOL - some of us can only go as wide as the race rules allow.

Of course Van. Fair enough. How wide can you go and what series do you race in?

FWIW, I just mounted my 18x10 et65 rears, and they clear the fender, with enough space to the outside of the 285 rubber on them...

Fronts are 18x8 et55 with 245 rubber and no rubbing issues... although I did get a growl this morning durring a spirited highway entrance (tight 270 degree turn on the on ramp)... need to track down the source of the growl...

ET40 would stick 15mm more to the outboard side (rim would extend past the fender, regardless of the rubber on them)

I believe et55 on the rear with a 10 inch rim would bring the rim lip even with the top of the fender... wouldn't look right IMHO...

18x10 ET47 with 265 rubber. Car is stock ride height. I hope I don't have a problem with them when I lower it. 265's are nearly bald so I plan on going to a 275 or 285 by spring, so hopefully those will fit and not rub. If worse comes to worse then I'll just roll the fenders a little.

Fronts are 18x8.5 ET52 with 225 rubber...which also needs to be stepped up, but the tires are nearly new

If I understood how the damn things are calculated better I would write a little perl app that would allow you to caculate whether or not wheels will fit and whether or not you will need spacers, and if so what size.

If someone wants to take the time to help me understand it I'll write this.....

offset (et) is the distance between the center of the rim and the wheel mounting surface..

Broken down:
18x10et65
18 inch diameter
10 inches wide
mounting surface of the rim is 65mm to the outside of the centerline (centerline being 5 inches from the inside surface of the bead mounting surface)...

Positive offset is to the outside of the centerline, negative offset is to the inside of the centerline...

I agree this needs to be a sticky... Or better yet we should have tab of useful tools for FAQ.

Any pictures from directly behind and directly in front to show how flush it is?

Here's a pic of the fronts that shows pretty well. Don't have the front wheels on at the moment otherwise I'd take a better shot.

Here's a pic of the rears. The outer edge of the rim is exactly flush with the outer edge of the fender. I haven't compressed it to make sure it doesn't rub under travel but I've never heard it rub so I'm sure i'm fine. Nothing a little camber can't take care of either.
