Few years ago I looked into buying a SF bay 89 turbo advertised as Glacier Blue that looked the same color as this

Attachment 391710

Maybe the correct name for the color actually is Glacier Metallic. Although I have seen other 944's as well advertised as Glacier Blue, maybe the sellers were wrong.

However, here is a book that does list U1 Glacier Blue Metallic on page 74 Original Porsche 924/944/968

I question some of the color charts and lists that you can find on the Internet because maybe they are not necessarily all inclusive. I had an 89 S2 that was Baltic Blue.

Attachment 391720

Haven't seen it listed on many Internet sources, but it was the factory color for the S2 I had here in the USA. Some may have called it Ocean Blue, but the factory sticker was Baltic. It's also listed on pg. 74.

Maybe there is some confusion originating from Porsche between Euro & USA color coding that causes these different interpretations.

hello everyone. I have always wanted a good running 944 turbo S... but how much are they really worth?? I have seen them range from a few thousand to 11,500 like was mentioned earlier in the post.

Is a rare 944 worth 11,500??? Or is it better to buy one for 4k or 5k that you can play with (mods, etc...)

When buying 951s you get what you pay for. If you buy a 4-5k 951 then look into putting about that much into it just to get it to a good reliable state (thats not taking into account the FEW 951s that sell cheap and are actually good deals).

My car was bought in Dec. of 04 with 140k and I paid 10k. Mine didn't really need anything outside of new tires.

What a car is worth really depends on the buyer. If someone really wants a good example and is looking for somewhat low mileage, maintenance history, and only slightly modified, they may be willing to pay a little more.

Just remember, there is no such thing as a cheap Porsche!

I'm expecting a lot more free time in December, so I may start asking more then. Right now, I don't have any space to put it in - I've already got five cars, and keep four at my house (3 car garage). So when get it, I need enough free time to move quickly on either selling the white one I've got now (in which case I'll be pulling my Leda and Racer's Edge suspension pieces off and replacing with stock stuff), or tearing it apart to get everything salvagable off of it (as I said, it has been sitting, I don't know the condition).

I'm anxious to see it, but with what I've got going on right now (finishing an MBA program, helping a startup company get off the ground, and dealing with a now 4 week old newborn), it would only serve as a distraction.

Ocean blue was a little darker and available 87-88, maybe 86. Baltic blue was available 89-91. In certain light they look the same. I have a baltic blue 89 turbo.

If you write a letter to the customer service department of Porsche Cars North America, I'm quite certain they can provide that information.

Speeking of rare colors, Rdanford did I see your car in the keystone parking lot this summer at the porsche parade?? It was the yellow 944 turbo next to another Porsche.. If it was you it was a very clean, nice car.
The parade was the only place I know to go where GT3's out numbered 944's!!

Hello everyone... please see the below picture. Is this what a 1988 Turbo S option tag should look like?? I notice that it says "51" on the tag... I though that the S motor was a "52"

just wanted to clarify.

Thanks guys!!

There is no way to tell that a car is a turbo S from looking at the VIN. Here is a link to a website showing how to decode the VIN

http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/P...6/VINAnat.html

BTW - welcome to Rennlist. What part of the country are you in?

Thanks guys... I am not so much worried about the VIN... it's the "51" at the bottom that worries me (signifies motor). is there anyone with a 88 turbo S that could go out and look at their car?? Just wondering if it should say 52

thanks
